F-22 Raptor Thread

Most fighter aircraft, not all, but most have some form of lifting body shaping, this contributes to the total lift produced by the aircraft, as well as providing a natural foil against the poorly understood, but very real tendency of supersonic aircraft to exhibit "mach tuck". So it is very beneficial, in fact the forward fuselage generates even more lift as pitch is increased, so vortexs are created and very strong low pressure turbulent airflow builds on top of the wing.
like the T50 and Su27 and F14 who use a more podded style of structure

This all goes back to Martins X-24 lifting body experimental aircraft, look it up on WIKI, I'm sure it will be of interest, moreover the J-20 and most other new designs are very similar in appearance to the Raptor in the forward fuselage, intake area.
yup that data also led to my favorite commercial space vehicle the Dream chaser.

J20 definitely shows a Lifting body shaped fuselage. The Influences favor Raptor, F15 and Typhoon over Flanker.

Actually the T-50 and the J-20 both have very strong forward fuselage "chining" and those chines actually fly and make both lift and "vortices", which if well managed, create even more lift as it rolls on toward the LERXs.

Both the T-50 and the J-20 forward fuselages are nearly identical to the F-22 aerodynamically, and that friend is no accident, why the T-50 was nicknamed the "F-22ski", BWAAA! HAAAHHH! HAAHHHH!

But Flanker's will always be sexier.:D:cool:

I think the Raptor is still the best of the best, and a winner is always "sexy", I love Flankers, and they are beautiful, but after watching a Raptor fly, its a very fluid, very happy airplane. Now on looks alone, the T-50 is gorgeous, not crazy about the cockpit area, but everything behind that is beyond beautiful.

F-22 and F-117 less nice also for agility a " iron " but the first stealth and not very expensive.

Yep, the "Wobblin Goblin", not a fighter as such, but a fighter-bomber, and very effective, but not very flexible in the long term, no longer in service, that tells us something. Incidentally the USAF forbade use of the name "Wobblin Goblin", LOL. I would suspect I read that in the Air Force Magazine??? but not for sure???.

In picture number two, note the massive deflection of the starboard flaperons and stabilon, as well as the TVC nozzles, he is rolling to Port very quickly, he is also very slow and likely in full burner, that thing will turn on a dime, and give you change back!

as an aside, note the Port flaperon, stabilon, are only minimally deflected, there is a reason for that, LOL.
