Four days old already, but still relevant I think.

First is the german selection of MEADS over an improved PATRIOT to develop and deliver the technology for the future german tactical air & missile defense system. After the US withdrawel in 2011, it got a little silent around the system. But development continued and that seems to bear fruits now.

Germany Announces MEADS Selection for Future Air and Missile Defense System

Selection makes Germany the first country to benefit from MEADS development

ORLANDO, Fla., June 9, 2015 – The German Federal Ministry of Defence has chosen the

as the basis for Taktisches Luftverteidigungssystem (TLVS), a next-generation network-based tactical air and missile defense system. It will replace Patriot air defense systems initially fielded in the 1980s.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will share in development of Germany’s TLVS with its MEADS International partner MBDA Deutschland.

[...]

In 2013, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, MEADS became the first air and missile defense system to demonstrate a dual intercept of targets attacking simultaneously from opposite directions. MEADS is designed to significantly reduce operation and support costs by covering a larger area with less manpower and equipment, and less demand on airlift. Once in theater, MEADS elements emplace more quickly and can be repositioned without shutting the system down. ...

Simultaniously the german MoD announced a decission to open a bidding process for four (with an option of two more) multi-role warships for the navy. These MKS180 vessels were initally called for under the reference of K131.
The idea of making the ship modular ment, however, that it would need to be considerably bigger the the initial corvette type draft. With a base crew or around 100.

has a budget of around 4 billion euros (2.9 billion pounds) to buy four new multi-role combat ships and plans to issue a tender open to European firms, Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday.

The new MKS 180 warships are expected to be delivered from 2023. They are intended to be capable of attacking targets on land and underwater, and providing aerial protection to other vessels in a range of 20 km (12 miles).

A ministry source said German firms, notably Luerssen, would be well placed to compete for the contract.

The defence ministry has been hit by years of funding cuts and headaches in procurement. It wants six of the new warships in all, although a decision on buying the other two is unlikely to be made before 2030.

Although, I think only some days ago, I read a report that so far only a very small number of missiles has actually been procured. And there's no immidiate plans to get more.

The Mk.III has a land attack capability as well already. The Mk.IV, besdes the massively increased range will also feature a dual mode seeker. Even more ECM robustness.
I also wonder if these weapons will find their way into the new Mks180 design, which I believe to be likely at this time.

Russian four mast sailing ship (state fishing fleet training ship) collides with two Iclandic Coast Guard vessels in Reykjavík, Iceland, on June 11, 2015.

The Russian STV Kruzenshtern was built in Germany in 1926 and was later surrendered to the USSR in 1946 as reparation following WWII. The tall ship is currently used as a training vessel for the Baltic Fishing Fleet State Academy.

The vessel will remain in Iceland as part of the ongoing investigation
