Re: European armed forces

Deployments in Europe to counter Russia
I count 68 fighter aircraft and four E-3s, along with the one tanker...though more tankers would easily be available if needed.

The breakout on fighter/bombers is as follows:

28 x F-16s
10 x F-15Cs
10 x Typhoons
06 x Gripens
06 x F-18s
04 x Rafales
04 x Mig-29s

That is a sizeable force, and could easily be doubled or tripled very quickly.

Did you notice that Italy and Spain did not send anything? To be honest Italy is a serious power after UK, France and Germany they sent nothing I will have check this one and see why they didn't sent anything

Italian navy is 3rd best after UK and France

Sweden is increasing the purchase of Gripen and Turkey is now going forward with expansion plans after Crimea issue

There is some really serious powers in there that have a very strong power base

Naval Today said:
Five Ukrainian ships, which were based in Crimea, have been returned to Ukrainian command by the Russian Navy, according to the RIA Novosti.

Russia began returning ships to Ukraine last month, the first one being Ukrainian missile boat Pryluky.

The ships were towed by the Russian tugs to neutral waters and the Russian Navy covered the towage costs.

The Ukrainian Navy has received the ships in the same condition as they were in Crimea, said the acting head of the Sevastopol administration, Dmitry Belik.

Russia is returning the ships to Ukraine under bilateral agreements signed between defense ministries of the two countries.

Russian news agency ITAR-TASS said the Russian Navy is returning the ships as it deems them “old, obsolete and in poor condition”.

A total of 70 ships were left in Crimea when the crisis began, and the number of returned ships to Ukraine until now amounts to 33.

Some of the ships that redeployed to Odessa so far are degaussing ship Balta, missile boat Pryluky and tanker Fastiv.

Pryluky and Fastiv ships were blocked by the Russian military in March and are the first ships to have left Crimea.
My understanding is that this FAC, the Pryluky, U-153, a Tanker, the Fastiv, U-760, and a LCU, thew Kirovohrad, U-401, were three of the five ships spoken of in this article that were recently returned.

I wonder if this will be the last set of Russian fighters we'll be seeing Ukraine using as they heads towards more to the West and NATO?

So....

25 operational Mig-29s
15 operational SU-27s
24 Operational SU-24Ms
12 operational SU-24MRs
24 operational Su-25s

I count that as 100 operational aircraft all together of those types of aircraft.

Re: European armed forces

Ukraine has returned 68 military aircraft to frontline service since the beginning of 2014, in response to the ongoing crisis in east Ukraine, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated on 2 June.

It would be interesting to know how many of what type of aircraft have been returned to service.

68 seems like a high number to me. Particularly because of the following two things:

1) The unrest going on during this period. Seems that the massive unrest would have made doing these tasks, particularly around the capitol or at any location close to the unrest, very difficult.

2) The country's financial condition. Taking aircraft that have been mothballed for years...and probably not well maintained during that time...from that condition into a flight, and then combat ready status is not cheap.

Re: European armed forces

Definitely all 40/45 Mig-29 are in service now ( before 25 with those to Belbek/Crimea ), surely also some Su-25 which are quite rustic and very useful for ground support ...

Now military aircraft can be also transport aircrafts ...

Also 3 Air defense units lost in Crimea with about 60 SAM launchers which 40 S-300PS the best version ( second of S-300 serie) use by Ukraine Forces, keep 70, about one third lost.

Number according SOC GE/files.
