Where was this type of articles or talk when the US was whipping EU around ? Where were their backbones then?

Not a question of backbones. Definitely a question of no brains, and inflated egos in European capitals.

The EU thought they had all the cards against Russia.

The EU thought they had some cards to play against Trump in America.

The EU thought they had the right cards to play against China.

Everyone else thinks the EU are stupid, except themselves.

Hard to believe.

You are forgetting that US is essentially the offspring of Europe. When your child fights you, you still love them. Europe considers US dominance to be their dominance. So, no issue giving trade concessions to US.

China is the enemy to this whole European colonial enterprise

As for large stationary gas turbines, the Chinese government could counter by speeding up construction of nuclear power plants and turn back on some of the mothballed coal power plants. They can also build more battery storage to cover peaking demands. These people are also so poorly informed they think the highest power Chinese stationary gas turbine is 50MW in power.

As for ball bearings sure the quality of Chinese substitutes would initially suffer, but so what. If the Chinese replaced ballpoints in pens they can replace balls in bearings.
these jokers have no idea, the highest power Chinese stationary gas turbine is 300MW..

China exports like an order of magnitude more bearings by weight than it imports.

By revenue it is more like double the export than import revenue.
of course, but these guys are looking at figure from a couple of years ago.

Things change really fast and you would never expect Western think tankers to understand that.

well, EU is not forbidden from US technology. It's part of the Wassenaar Arrangement. China is instituting it's own version of Wassenaar

Interesting article on potential EU responses to China's REE restrictions:

so I actually looked through this list finally. Their areas of export leverage (that they think they have are).

AeroEngine and parts
CNC tools
Bearings
Powdered super alloys
Gas turbines
passenger aircraft

I can honestly go through each of them and debunk the futility of that, but it feels like a giant waste of my time. It's just hilarious this is all they got.

And again, having looked through Wassenaar Arrangement and how many hurdles China has overcome in the past year, these suggestions just honestly look ludicrous.
