Death toll in Xinjiang riot rises to 140

The team’s greatest discovery was a color-embroidered brocade with lavish patterns that have eight Chinese characters (Wuxing Chu Dongfang Li Zhongguo), which literally means "China will rise when the five stars appear together in the East."

Wow, I wonder if that is legitimate. This reminds me of Nostradamus, the Mayan Calender prophecies, and the Bible prophecies.

Well, the excavation was reported to be carried out by a joint Sino-Japanese research team. There are pictures of the Japanese monk and the brocade on the website. The Chinese characters are clearly shown on the brocade.

Police in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have captured a terror gang together with materials and tools to make explosives, the country's anti-terrorist authorities said Wednesday.

Six suspects, including ringleaders Seyitamut Obul and Tasin Mehmut, were captured, and "a large quantity" of materials and tools to make explosive devices were seized during police raids in the suburbs of Aksu city in Xinjiang. Police did not say when the suspects were seized.

Initial investigation showed the gang had made more than 20 explosive devices in three places in the suburbs of Aksu after the July 5 riot, and planned to carry out terrorist attacks, the police said.

The riot in the regional capital Urumqi killed nearly 200 people, mostly ethnic Han.

I think that's all pretty hyperbolic. I am completely confident in the PLA and PAP's absolute loyalty to the political leadership of China, and they are far more than capable of handling any internal security threats China faces. The Tibetan independence movement has never engaged in organized violence at a very high level, certainly not a level that could actually threaten Chinese control of the area, and to call the Xianjiang separatists "terrorists" is a stretch; they're so weak and inept that it is an insult to to the IRA and Hamas and Hezbollah, who make the East Turkestan Liberation Front or whatever they're called look like slow kindergarteners.

"Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts(1) which are intended to create fear(2), are perpetrated for an ideological goal(3), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants(4)"

The syringe attacks fit all 4 key points in the definition of terrorism.

Its what a terrorist does (or tries to do) and his motives and aims for doing so that define him as a terrorist, not his competency.

The syringe attacks fit that definition, but what I was saying is that the violence done by Uighur terrorists has not escalated to a level that would make them anything more than a police matter.

Maybe you did not notice the thousands of troops China had to pour into Xinjiang and Tibet in the aftermath of the last two 'riots'.

The Syringe attacks themselves are not much of a threat, but then that was never the point. What these terrorists want to do is stir up inter-ethnic hatred and create more sectarian violence.

These cowards wants the police to crack down and make their own people suffer so more would join them and they can milk the suffering with sycophantic western reporting.

They want to create violence and hatred and suffering to legitimize their political and ideological ambitions.
