Could you for the less knowledgable of us explain how what you have posted implies IEPS and an EMALS configuration? I take it that this is a model shape for the island on the carrier but I don't see how the shape of the island let's us draw conclusions with regards to power generation and catapult type.

Chinese engineers have allegedly successfully developed a new integrated propulsion system (IPS)–“a medium-voltage,

But to confirm it 100%, just wait and see

Yes, IEP is implied but not confirmed. With a MVDC power network, IEP is the natural solution for propulsion. But we've also heard many rumors about steam, so it's too soon say 003 will have an IEPS just because they will use MVDC for the catapults.

Pretty much a toss-up between steam, gas turbine, and IEP at this point. However, as the 004 will begin construction soon (if it hasn't already started) we can speculate if that one will have IEP or perhaps even nuclear.

Or with a future carrier, perhaps even nuclear IEP?

I know, I know. Don't take me too seriously. :p

Some rendering of the islands of the 001, 002, and what may potentially be 003, 004. Featuring others as well for comparison.

Is 003 suppose to be gas turbine or steam turbine powered?

what is the basis for assuming 003 island would be Dramatically smaller than 002 island?

my understanding is its prime movers will be steam.
