Another hint towards a first sea trial ... Daguan class barracks ship no. 89 (?) was moved into the outfitting wharf berth of the Jiangnan Shipyard sitting now just behind the Type 003 aircraft carrier "Fujian".

Deino, do you remember how long did it take for Shandong to start sae trials after the barrack ship showed up? 6 months?

The PLAN assigned 003 crew would probably need 3 to 4 months of training and orientation before they can put 003 out to sea for trial. Meanwhile in-basin trials similar to CV17 Shandong's may start sooner.

The first sea trial of CV17 was in May 2018. Smoke from engine was spotted in February 2018, and the barrack ship was at berth next to CV17 in January 2018.

And just as in "Indiana Jones 3" no X has ever marked a historically relevant place, PLAN has never based its events on historical dates so that it would be just a funny coincidence, if the PLAN's 75th anniversary on 23 April 2024 the "Fujian" would be officially commissioned.

I suspect it will take longer to commission CV-18 simply because it is a whole new design with new systems in it like the EMALS.
It probably won't be as bad as the long delays the US had with the Ford class, but I doubt it will happen quickly.

I totally agree with you and based on my gut feeling I would say QIV-2024 or even QI-2025 would be more likely. But we'll see especially how much testing of the carrier proceeds hand in hand with testing of the J-35.
