i am still bummed about the lack of jet engine testing facility. this is highly unacceptable

How so? How many nations have carriers with aft fantails for engine testing? It's basically only US carriers.

Also, the 003 does have a wide aft open area, whose role we do not know yet.

"Highly unacceptable" is too much.

Jet engine test facilities only really make sense when you have aircraft that can deliver backup engines on deck. One after the other, we will see the test facilities for jet engines - just not at 003.

You can always carry spare engines if you want. Indeed I expect aircraft carriers to carry a number of spare engines as standard. It would be silly not to.

As for the lack of an engine test facility, well let’s wait till the carrier is finished before we pass judgement.

But even if there isn’t a dedicated area purpose built for it, it is still perfectly possible to test run engines, worst case you install them on a fighter and test them on deck at a launch position. You can do it at the waist launch position and still have two jets sitting at the forward launch positions on alert without any meaningful compromise of your overall combat readiness. But more likely they can just wheel the test rig somewhere and anchor it with specialist attachment points and can run their tests either on deck or through any of the openings on the hanger deck.

Best wish for PLA

several opinions about the 003 without engine test stand according to my knowledge: 1.003 is designed to defend and will be send to near mainland. that means it can go back to base to reload or repair the engine. 2.003 can carry several engine for the unexpected situation and do not need to repair and test them on the carrier.

No.

Kittyhawk, Invincible, Clemenceau and Kiev class aircraft carriers were never limited to near-shore operations. So is Type 003.

With enough auxiliary logistic ships, a conventional steam powered aircraft carrier could be sent to and operated anywhere around the world.

China doesn't have a C-2 Greyhound equivalent.
