The 003 can be based on an existing carrier design and still come with enough improvements that it's effectively a new class.

The Fujian received it's own separate NATO reporting name to distinguish itself from Kuznetsov CV (Liaoning/Type 001) and Kuznetsov Modified CV (Shandong/Type002) classes.
  • Type 001's (Liaoning) official NATO reporting name is "

    CV".
  • Type 002's (Shandong) official NATO reporting name is "

    (modified) CV".
  • Type 003's (Fujian) official NATO reporting name is "

    CV".

Notice Fujian is not a "Kuznetsov mod (modified)" or "Kuznetsov" as Shandong/Liaoning, but it's own separate distinct NATO reporting name, because it's effectively a new class due to extensive upgrades, structural changes, and internal modifications. So yes, Fujian has DNA lineage from Kuznetsov, but it has a million upgrades that basically render it an effectively new class. It's not simply a modified Kuznetsov with CATOBAR characteristics, which loses a lot of nuance in terms of the upgrades/improvements it has recieved.

Any design that is a CATOBAR is by definition a different class from a STOBAR.

All ships today share the same lineage or DNA from the end of the 1800s.

The structural changes in a CATOBAR from a STOBAR are greater than any between frigates, destroyers and cruisers from the same country.

Class, like a name James or Jenny, is arbitrary, but derivative isn't. So focusing on class is complete Red Herring.

You don't have to look identical to your biological parents and siblings in order to share DNA with them. Likewise, 003 doesn't have to look identical to the Kuznetsov class in order to be a derivative (share DNA).

The identification guide gives it a different name because the profile is too different, not necessarily because its "effectively a new class." That being said, Fujian is radically different from the Kuznetsov base to the point that it's a bit disingenuous to call it a "Kuznetsov".

STOBAR is a different class of vessel from a CATOBAR not simply a name like James or Jenny.

Every ship of a certain type is going to be derivative of a certain design because that design is needed for the type of ship to carry out its roles. There will never be an aircraft carrier without a hangar and a runway on its deck because those are necessary for it to be an aircraft carrier in the first place. All aircraft carriers, no matter who builds them, must follow this same, basic design, else they aren't aircraft carriers.

We call these "mandatory fun days", it's a new unit, so the officers will do this kind of "unit cohesion" events.
I mean it nice , but I hated them back in the days , I for one thinks if you want the unit to bound , just give every squad a weekend off the base and they will figure it out.
