I don't care CAG, this here says you can pack them in more than that! Make it so!

Sure would be a headache to unpack that ...

This is neat I suppose, but I'm very curious what they thought they were learning by evaluating this lol.

Ooooh, senpai Patchwork replied me.

But hey, Graduate students gotta graduate right? I've seen more fantastic (as in fantasy) thesis than this.

I guess if I had to stretch for an application ... something something AI controlled towing tractors?

Interesting article about PLA carrier operations. How upto date is this article? Is the PLA really just doing 20 sorties per day and with "clean" configurations?

That makes me wonder, how advanced has the PLA carrier operations have gotten so far. Have we ever seen J-15's flying from carrier with air-ground or anti-ship loadout flying from carriers?

We have seen J-15s fly with YJ-83Ks.

The article, as well as many other posts from people including some people on this forum, make the mistake of assuming that PLA sortie rates observed during their open ocean western pacific exercises are a reflection of actual practiced sortie rates that they have done on CV-16 or CV-17.

That conclusion from outlets and observers tend to ignore:
1: we have not seen their carriers do open ocean westpac exercises with full complement airwings that they are capable of holding
2: the purpose of open ocean western pacific carrier/CSG exercises at this stage of the PLAN's carrier program development likely are not for doing high pace carrier sorties, but rather for long distance carrier strike group operations, with focus on the "group" (i.e.: escorts, replenishment vessels). If they are wanting to exercise high sortie rates, at the PLAN's current stage of carrier program development, they likely they would be doing so far closer to China proper so that they are closer to divert land bases if needed

So yes, the article is technically somewhat up to date at the time it was written, but its premises and conclusions in this regard are more than a little illogical.

Some new images showing the PLANS-16 „Liaoning“ in the drydock at Dalian shipyard.

Strange … these images are said to be too big?! So this helps maybe…

Is it normal for a aircraft carrier to be in and out of the drydock so often. We have seen over the years I don't know how many times that the Liaoning or the Shangdong is in a drydock. Certainly more often than the Admiral Kuznetsov.
