Sorry that I break into your discussion.

My stance is: everybody has rights to choose, just do not force your own choice onto others. As a Chinese proverb says: 己所不欲,勿施于人. The West doesn't do this. They choose to live with the virus and criticize China's Zero-Covid policy.

I can see the eager to reopen of countries like Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand... to save their economies. Generally, I have no problem with them choosing to do so because my own country, Cambodia, is also desire to reopen our country but very cautiously. If we reopen and something goes wrong, the country maybe shut off again. However, the phrase "to live with the virus" is not valid to me because if you choose not to do anything, Covid-19 will not become an endemic but it will be a disaster. Finally, the people will be the one who suffer. Further, your example of smoking and alcohols is not valid in this case because those who smoke and drink may get sick and die but just themselves only. Covid-19 will spread around and make others sick and die.

The bottom line is: If one nation can get Covid-19 under control, it can choose to reopen and do not force any other country to follow your method.

To each their own, that we can agree on.

Just want to point out that smoking and drinking related deaths are hardly only the individuals that suffer. Try telling that to the victims of drink driving or alcohol fueled violence or the people who suffer from 2nd hand smoke.

A few people around those who drink and smoke may suffer (I think drunk driving in Singapore may results in jailing) but at least it doesn't spread through the air like the way Covid-19 does. Again, it's up to everyone's choice. For myself, I will not go anywhere until I feel safe to do so.

Coronavirus mutates at a rate 1 million times faster than people. It took 10 million years for humans and chimps to diverge to 96% genetically identical from a common ancestor. Based on this, scientists estimate covid-19 diverged from its closest relative bat coronavirus in Laos which is 96% genetically identical 10 years ago. Although this common ancestor will probably never be found.

I think the varied approaches and consequences of opening up are showing just how we are still learning due to this being a NOVEL disease...

As mentioned by @solarz, the cases in Ontario had a small bump when initially opening up, but are declining slowly despite schools being open.

Singapore has had a huge rise, but the vaccination levels and timeframe are relatively similar. So what is the explanation? Population density? Mixed vaccines? I certainly don't imagine people are more careful in Ontario than in Singapore.

Statistically speaking, the real question is whether the death/hospitalization from COVID is in excess of what happens normally. If we think back to early on in Wuhan, Italy, NY, and even in parts of the US recently like Idaho, you had morgues filling up, ERs filling up, this was beyond what is normally expected. However, if 1 or 2 people are dying per day in a city, then it really is not an extraordinary circumstance.

This is not to say saving a life is not important, but rather something like making a law mandating bicycle helmets vs. banning bicycles altogether. Even the esteemed Zhang Nanshan has said the expectation is not to have Covid restrictions forever.
We call them "Banana" - yellow on the outside, white on the inside

Just as easily digestable
My experience (Canada) is this
Generally Banana is for what you were talking about, basically no Chinese cultural leanings despite ethnicity (Can't speak, probably can't understand, definitely can't read Chinese or any dialects)

Boba is something else. Usually it is Boba-liberal. Usually identifies as "progressive", cheers on generic "Asian" causes, but in the end very shallow and manufactured by western influence. They lack the knowlege of actual Chinese history/culture (language skills, etc.) so can't truly relate (i.e. How problematic accepting the simple western narrative around HK for example). As such their "Asian-ness" is basically down to hanging out at Bubble Tea places. Basically the same with the addition of politics I guess.

It's not that new. It diverged from bat coronavirus only 9 years ago. Every few years we can expect a recombinant coronavirus like this one. Also, lots of Chinese living near bat caves have exposure to bat coronavirus all the time. So it's not new. It's only hype to sell vaccine and mask for profit.

Here in Ontario people have acquired natural immunity due to natural infection. Not only covid-19 is decreasing. The same is true for every other coronavirus species. Also, Waterloo region wastewater covid-19 surveillance shows high level of covid-19 virus around, suggesting it is fast becoming another common cold coronavirus causing only mild symptoms if at all.

I have to add there's also boba neocons who support Trump, imperialism, white male supremacy, etc. They're like the minions of cartoon villains.

I'm talking about people like Jo.shua Wo.ng, Na.than Law, Ian Miles Che.ong, Andy N.go, Ha.nk Yo.o, Ro.aming Mil.lenial (Lau.ren Chen) etc.

And of course, let's never forget F..L..G.
