UK is planning a 2nd shutdown?
Is it a shutdown, or a "shutdown"? Any UK users here have any more info?

The Johnson government are currently refusing to issue a 2nd Lockdown, instead settling for more restrictions. As usual, things like mandated masks may be ignored by many shoppers passing through enclosed areas/members of the public, at least where I live and work. Whilst there may be a wariness when restrictions/local lockdowns occur, it's fairly quickly back to business as usual for the (very large) shopping centre near where I live.

Sorry for the double post - was outside the edit window for my clarification.

The shopping centre has enforced mask wearing but all these people going out for luxury shopping certainly are not there for 'essentials'. The traffic volume has overall been very busy, even pre-COVID-19 levels imho. You can see teenagers and even older people often sitting on buses without masks despite being mandated to do so. Perhaps they wear it getting on but then take it off sitting inside. What good is distancing when there's no longer an enforced gap between seats and there could be a person behind you less than 30cm away?

Yep, it's a shutdown.... but..... not a lockdown. See the difference?

Due to Boris's leaderless leadership, the last lockdown was a joke. He's allowed his political advisor to travel hundreds of miles to 'test his eye sights' and see his parents. Defended his actions stoutly. Thus giving an impression to the general populace that is ok to do so. In defiance to it's own government rules.

So instead of copying China's 'draconian measures' and take the pain for a later gain. The UK took the soft option and now is paying the price. Boris, like Trump is more worry about the economy, just couldn't wait to end the first lockdown (however loose that was).

Even now, schools are back just so people can leave their kids in schools so they can get back to work to get the economy going. My friend is a primary teacher, you tell to control the kids so they are separated at all time. It's a joke. As for my students, they are 16 to 19 years old. They are a bit more controlled and respectful in class. Bit I've seen them in the court yards and on the roads to and back from college. Complete lack of social distancing going on!

It's going to be alot more pain!
I guess this is how the western world is going to be in terminal decline, because while China is strict and cruel at times, they still put the welfare of the people above personal riches, hence why China is able to grow against all the odds. On the other hand, the USA and the UK together have leaders that seem to put wealth and power first and as you can see right now, the results more them speak for itself. If they cannot control themselves in this crucial time, well I don't have much hope for these people in the next 2 months

Hi Skye_ZTZ_113,

Stay safe and godbless, there is a lockdown fatigue in every country, here in the Phillipine people disregard health protocol to see our new artificial beach in manila bay, its crazy but people need a reason to go out.

It’s a fuckup is what it is. An entirely foreseeable ( and foreseen even by laymen like myself) and preventable mess that anyone with half a brain could see coming months before.

The UK never even got close to controlling the virus. All it’s actions have been piecemeal, knee-jerk and unco-ordinated.

This is precisely the kind of nonsense that happens when you have a country run by a bunch of incompetent old-boys-club, silver spooned aristocrats who got their positions through nepotism and inherence rather than ability; and who never lowered themselves into having to deal with the real world for themselves.

Throughout the outbreak, the absolute paramount overriding priority has always been about business and the economy, with those in charge apparently not able to comprehend that business and the economy needs actually living humans to function and that dead people = economic contraction.

It was all about making sure the rich toffs running the country and their richer buddies didn’t loose money. That’s why the UK initially resisted and delayed imposing a lockdown and was going for the herd immunity BS, because to those in charge money > lives.

The name (not the strategy) was only dropped because apparently they didn’t expect the lower classes to be smart enough to realise what the implications of going for herd immunity meant in terms of the human cost.

When the first lockdown was imposed, it was very much a grudging concession and a retreat in the face of the overwhelming public backlash against their herd immunity plan.

And to be frank, it almost feels like that initial lockdown was purposefully designed to be as ineffective at actually containing the virus as they could get away with; while at the same time being as unnecessarily punitive and disruptive to the everyday lives of ordinary people as possible, especially the old, sick, vulnerable and ‘lower’ classes.

If you want to be charitable, it feels like the Tory leadership wanted to ‘inoculate’ the British public against future lockdowns so as to minimise the damage to their own selfish economic interests; but when you factor in the apparent approval and support for disgusting perversions of science such as Eugenics (A high profile government hire was forced to resign before even starting the role due to his prominent support for Eugenics, which seemed to be the only remarkable thing about the guy) by the likes of Dominic Cummings, who many believe actually runs the country, and it’s hard not to suspect that a high death toll amongst the elderly, the sick, the ‘lower’ social classes and other ‘undesirable’ was not in fact a feature and not a bug of their lockdown and anti-Covid strategy all along.

The UK went out of lockdown far too soon, and the government actively promoted and strongly pushed absolutely ridiculous activities that anyone with half a brain can see will actively help to get the virus to spread like wildfire as quickly as possible. Things like encouraging foreign and domestic holidays; arbitrary and entirely politically determined quarantine and exemption lists (China, where the virus has been brought as completely under control as realistically possible, is still on the quarantine list, while America still isn’t!); strong arming schools to reopen and pushing for workers to return to the office as late as last week.

Right now we are just restarting the loop, with half measures rather than lockdowns.

Yes. Does anyone here remember the UK trying to score political points against China by flying all the British people back to Britain from Wuhan. Talk about pure political theatre and publicity stunt.

And the funny thing was, it all back fire on them because no logistic was in place. And what make matters worse was the drivers of the coach that pick all these people up have their company uniform on for 'protection" whereas all the medic staff and anyone else had the full Protection gear........... sitting next to the drivers! Lol. No wonder the drivers was looking worry! Lol

IThere is a large chance that these vaccines will end up killing more people than the virus. We hope not...

If the vacines don't work and the possible end of mankind is on the horizon, our last chance to turn to people with genealogist skills like Manqiangrexue and try gene editing to enable immunity.
