Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

My cousin was working at Xinfadi Market (the source of the Beijing outbreak) when the outbreak happened. He was quarantined at a hotel, initially for 14 days, and now extended to 28 days. He got tested immediately after the outbreak and got a negative result (thank god), and is now getting tested again just to make sure. Everybody there follows this same routine.

“Historically, this has been a very big problem,” says Adam Kamradt-Scott, associate professor specializing in global health security at the University of Sydney. “The source of outbreaks needs to be thoroughly investigated and the scientific links established before countries put in place restrictive measures.”

What a buckload of bs. By then it's freaking too late. That's exactly what Wuhan did in the early days of the outbreak - "don't know if there's human-to-human transmission, so let's pretend there isn't". We all know how that went.

If science proves otherwise, just lift the restrictions. There will be money lost, sure, but the risk of a new outbreak is minimised.

Same with my relative, he was in a hotel traced to other potentially infected individuals. Had to quarantine in Guangzhou for 14 days.

Shocking - Dr Paul Tambyah (the infectious disease expert whom PAP did not consult ) now reveals what MOM truly did to make the blangadeshi cluster explode - MOM issued a statement to all the blangadeshi employers that if they bring their workers for testing they will lose their work permit privileges.

Prof Tambyah is an infectious disease expert with NUH. He is also the President of the US-based International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID). He praised Singapore's initial handling of the pandemic on CNA in January. He also praised the handling of the cluster of COVID-19 cases involving Bangladeshi workers at the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.

At a recent NUSS Forum, he made a shocking revelation. He said that in Feb, employers wanted to have their employees that were staying in the same dorm that had covid cases tested. However, “MOM issued a statement telling the employers they were not allowed to bring their workers for testing, and if they brought their workers for testing, they would lose their work pass privileges”. Today, we have almost 45,000 cases most of which are dorm cases. We are spending millions to resolve the dorm fiasco. Our reputation has gone down the drain. Our medical facilities are overwhelmed thus resulting in the suspension of many surgeries. Prof Tambyah's revelation is factual otherwise, he would have been POFMAed.

What is also startling is that we have a Singaporean doctor who is an infectious disease expert and has gained worldwide recognition, but he is not roped in to fight COVID. Sad.

While its far too early to speculate on the possibility of Covid 19 was in Spain before the Wuhan outbreak

It's interesting to note how this guy while acknowledging Covid being found in Spain he still insists that it spread from China despite the science suggesting otherwise.

The comments deride this commentators opinion.

Yes, I saw that video too. I had been following the doctor and he lost me when he was shown to be biased against WHO and certain countries especially a certain one. In one video he seemed to agree with Trump the virus could have escaped from a Wuhan lab and that Trump had no reason to tell otherwise when he said he had seen evidence of it from intelligence. As a doctor, he should know better and wary of hearsays that are politically motivated and that is not based on scientific evidence.

Not sure where else to post this tbh, but I think someone posted about the hantavirus in this thread a while back. Hopefully this gets suppressed similarly to the hantavirus outbreak. With the infrastructure already in place, the China CDC is probably more than ready for this.
