A documentary by CNA about the suffering of the poor in India's Covid-19 crisis. Its long, but is worth the watch.
Basically this documentary highlights the suffering of the poorest people in India go through during the Covid-19 outbreak in India. Indirectly it shows the inhumanity of the BJP government towards the poorest people in India. Sanju Verma, a BJP spokesperson is interviewed in this documentary. She is a typical disgusting BJP sociopathic propaganda loudspeaker. She does nothing but arrogantly boasts about Modi's 'heroism' while shooting down criticisms with vicious contempt.
There are a few highlights in this documentary:
1) A desperately poor mother could barely afford to care for her sick daughter. That sick daughter then contracted Covid-19 and died from complications. It looks like there is negligible government assistance for health care for the poor.
2) As incomes evaporated, some of the desperately poor were conned into slavery. Slavery in India in 2020, yeah think about that.
3) The migrant workers in the cities lost their jobs overnight when the 'Great Indian Lockdown' was imposed. Everyone knew the story of their great migration back to their home villages. Still, they found more poverty there and had to endure it. When things opened up and these guys returned to the cities, their jobs never returned. It has become a triple whammy for them.
4) The desperately poor are also in debt with loan sharks. When the economy tumbled thanks to BJP's 'great management', many committed suicide.
Covid-19 is perhaps the ultimate test of governance. It has ruthlessly exposed the weaknesses and incompetence of the worse governments in the world. First USA, then Brazil, and now India. And some people still wanna compare India favorably with China? First, the Covid-19 response in both countries are nowhere near comparable. Second, just contrast the poverty alleviation efforts of the two countries. China in 2020 is on the verge of eradicating poverty. While India in 2020, we have to ask if its really serious about poverty alleviation. To me, it looks as if the BJP government is more than happy to perpetuate poverty. How dare they dream about leading India to compete against, and eventually defeat China? Superpower India 2020? Disgusting!
