Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

Given the unholy mess the US CDC made of test kits, I really don’t rate their chances with a vaccine, hence Trump’s earlier attempts to buy out German/EU efforts.

This has nothing to with the with scientists working at the CDC (well, maybe a little, but that is more to do with the scientists no longer working at the CDC than those who still are. There have been countless articles posted in this forum in recent years about Great Leap Forward like political harassment and persecution of ethnic Chinese scientists in the US by the FBI and other US le enforcement agencies, with many being either fired and/or arrested based on flimsy or downright false evidence, and many more moving on to greener pastures back in China or Europe/Canada/Australia etc).

In many ways, America today is very much like the Qing dynasty during its final years, with talentless and incompetent yes-men and sycophants being promoted to positions of high authority and leadership within key US agencies based pretty much solely on personal connections, ideological ‘purity’ and unwavering loyalty to bossman Trump.

You can have the best scientists in the world on your team, but if the leadership doesn’t listen to their advice nor use them effectively, you are not going to get good results.

Hmm. Even back in 2009, CDC did not do a good job on the swine flu epidemic either.
Not much useful guidance was provided and it was allowed to spread uncontrolled in workplace where I got it.

In other news. US wants to un-withdraw from WHO.

I am not sure if I should put this here since it’s not technically about the coronavirus, but does have some tangential relationship with it. It’s about the 5g/coronavirus hysteria.

Mods please move if you think there is a better thread for it.

When the Chinese vaccine(s) become available, China needs to follow through with its commitment to make the vaccine a ‘global good’, by providing as much as could be manufactured, at cost, to be distributed by the WHO.

China should also make this intention clear to the WHO now, so that it does not needlessly cave to ridiculous American demands as a condition of American ‘un-withdrawal’.

I would say that China should go as far as to pledge to make up America’s contributions to the WHO for the next 5 years.

Trump was idiotic in his ‘negotiations’ stunt with the WHO. It’s like a terrorist who’s opening move when negotiating with police is to shoot his one and only hostage.

Trump could have used the threat of US withdrawal to put massive pressure on the WHO, but by jumping the gun and straight out withdrawing as an opening step, he has already done all the damage.

China should do whatever is necessary to support the WHO so it approaches any negotiations with American from a position of maximum strength and make the Americans come crawling back on the WHO’s terms and not get to use that as a means to get the WHO to take responsibility for Trump’s own ineptitude.

They're working so hard to find anything to make Chinese look bad instead of solving their own issues. So much FLG in the comment section.

They are useless cowards and noisemaker when fighting the virus, but become skeptical criticizer when commenting on the mainstay of human species in the fight.

So how could we obliterate a virus?
Brute force from science and organized teamwork from democracy, comrade, science and democracy!

In Wuhan, within 19 days,
162.jpg
9.9 million people did nucleic acid test.
167.jpg
Turned out 0 patient.
177.jpg
300 asymptomatic infected.
183.jpg
All 1174 close-contacts traced, all negative.

Virus is annihilated in Wuhan. Humanity prevail.

Since there is no sars-cov-2 in humanbody and environment of Wuhan, I wonder how could the virus have a comeback in autumn.
I hope our custom, police, even MSS keep a close eye on them, just in case some nutcase decide to "make it happen".

Clearly Vanity Fair doesn't know why Trump withdrew from WHO. He did it to score points with his base. They're against international institutions and that's it. Blaming China is just an excuse.

To Trump's strategists, WHO made the mistake of commending China on its virus outbreak response. No matter the truth.

Had WHO's director not been to China and made that comment or had he just kept quiet, nothing about WHO's response to the virus would worth a mention for Trump and his strategists.

Trump was targeting international institutions from the beginning. NATO, the UN, the WTO, TPP, Paris Accords, etc... Why? Because they give other countries a say. Trump's base wants to see the world burn because they think the US will be the only one left standing. Remember, Trump liked bi-lateral deals. That's because the US will always have the leverage. International institutions give other countries a say. They can organize and rule against the US and signatories will have to go along because that what they agreed to do.

Had WHO's director not been to China, Trump and his strategists would definitely blame him for not going to China. Had WHO's director not commented about China and kept quiet during a pandemic, Trump and his strategists would again blame him for not talk about China where they wanted the world to believe the problem is.

Can anyone see the problem here? For the past 300 years white English speaking nationals have dominated the world from every single aspect. All the rights and wrongs, moral or factual, at least on the international stage are all set by the white English speaking people. Therefore, in the time of great change, the current "Five Eyes" which are the leading white English speaking countries left will do anything to make everyone else life as difficult as possible if they dare to get strong from all aspect of life (if just one or two aspects, they don't usually care that much), so that they could just about to hold on that tiny bit longer.
