The pandemic after the pandemic, just because you survived a severe case of Covid that doesn't means than your organs and tissues are not badly scarred with life long consequences. The good news is that it "seems" that Omicron causes less long Covid than delta and alpha but is better to be safe yourself and your families.

I could totally see Chinese gov't relaxing controls after indigenous domestic mRNA vaccines have emergency approvals with short-term RCT trials in humans. There is nothing else really on the horizon that would "trigger" the paradigm shift in mentality in the Chinese population unless it's a new vaccine-type or new antiviral drug. Merely saying: "it's not that bad, let's going back to normal" isn't enough, it has to be a new drug or vaccine introduced to justify a fundamental shift in population attitude.

The availability of a sterilizing vaccine and/or preventive medicine would likely be enough to fundamentally shift the Covid strategy and public attitude. I'm just hoping intranasal vaccines that are going to finish their 3rd clinical trial in the following months is going to show effectiveness in sterilization.

People in China don’t trust mRNA vaccines, they are not stupid
