Sounds like things are coming right, but hope the procedures they are going to put in place nationwide are done by next winter.
The greatest challenge they will be facing is getting the elderly to vaccinate, building up mass testing and isolation facilities for the less developed regions, and also recruiting then training volunteers in order to service those mass testing center (at least it helps with unemployment). I think by the end of this year, much of China is going to follow the Shenzhen model, which has a lot of mobility restrictions and bi-daily testing requirements in order to pass those restrictions.

I think by this time next year all Chinese cities will be under some variation of the Shenzhen model.

That is the problem with letting this virus take a hold a country because in some places is just one big wave but in other places just stay forever.
Maybe different variants?

South Africa have the new variant BA.4 and BA.5, and their cases are increasing

There's some research claiming that being infected by the original Omicron variant doesn't confer immunity to the newer Omicron variants like BA.2/4/5, but I'm not sure if its peer-reviewed. If the research is correct, then it would explain why these Covid waves resurged in places that already suffered a Covid wave not long before.
