Computer Talk

Re: Computer Talk!!

Yeah, KP500 supports both e-mail and browser. I want a touch phone because I want to browse the web. You know, to use the keypad to browse a website on a phone is another frustrating thing. Hope I have a correct phone.

Does the KP500 has a flash enabled browser? This is a rarity, since not even Apple iPhones, Blackberries, and Windows Mobile currently have browsers that are Flash enabled. I do hear that Nokias have Flash enabled browsers, so does the Android phones, Docomo FOMA phones, and a number of Samsung and LG touchscreen phones with Symbion or proprietary OS. The KP500 might be able to do it. You can check with a flash enabled site. I'm interested to know.

Addendum: I checked out Google. It turns out it does have a Flash enabled browser. In fact the whole interface is based on Flash. So your phone purchase ain't that bad. iPhone 3.0 update still doesn't have a Flash on Safari browser.

Re: Computer Talk!!

That's the problem I have with this gadget prone world. Too much is built for techno geeks and not regular people. Even cars are getting that way nowadays.

Very true. Cars now don't have a simple stereo. No, they must have iPod or MP3 integration, often with the buttons to match. Toyota's Scions are a good example.

Many cars even have voice recognition for bluetooth handless control of celphones, and touch screens that include GPS navigation, like the Toyota hybrids.

Even the military is turning into a freaking video game. Nothing but one big LCD display after another in air, land and sea. Even grunts carry fortified laptops and PDAs.

The ability to play a video game might also be sooner or later, a military enlistment requisite. Don't be surprised.

True..When I worked for a very larger auto rental company we took delivery of some new Volvos..Ya' needed a PHD to figure out how to operate the radio/stereo. It did not have a button that simply stated am/fm.. Even on the Ford Focus you needed a MA to operate the stereo..jeez..

KISS!! Please!

Hmm, I have not used my AM/FM for a while. My stereo is always jacked to an iPod.

Have been busy these few days, and almost no time to post a reply. I tested my KP500 with a flash enable website, and found that it's great. No mobile's browser has ever been like this, even the O2 which costs 3 to 4 times in price. You surf the sites like you do on a computer. The KP500's browser has a zoom function that allow you to view the whole or portion of the site. But its 3.0MP camera is just a scrape, in short, you can only take picture which is still.

Re: Computer Talk!!

O2 phones, especially if they're running on WiMo, are HTC made devices. IE6 for WiMo is so slow in rendering, it can be considered not worth the use. Only Opera 9.5 is considered usable for browsing for WiMo, but it isn't flash enabled and you would need to download it separately if it isn't included like in HTC devices. However, Opera renders a web page complete as it appears in the desktop, just like Safari for the iPhone, so this means its Java or Javascript enabled.

The Cookie seems render pages like the iPhone. I read the reviews, the Flash works on the interface but not the browser, though that appears to be either partial to full HTML or WAP 2.0 enabled or both. But I think you already go a separate youtube player. As a note, WAP 2.0 or XHTML browser support is better supported in more international sites than in the US it seems.

Sounds like an OK phone to me with an excellent UI. The flaws appear to be the lack of 3G and WiFi. You would have to make use of Edge hopefully your carrier has it. The flaws are sort of understandable because the model that has it, the KC910 Renoir, was only announced last February.

I think my carrier doesn't likely to support any Edge. It connects to internet via GPRS (old tech? now people use 3G) with the max speed of 54kbps. But the cause was calculate by data volume which is too expensive for surfing large website. Because I'm a football fan, so I want to keep watch to the live score of the match while I'm not in front of the computer. I used to view live score at wap.spbo.com. You "wap" is design for phone browser, it's fast and consume very little data volume. Now, with the KP500, I can surf its main site www800.spbo.com!

Yeah, GPRS is old tech. EDGE is basically enhanced GPRS. If you're connected to EDGE, most phones would display EDGE.

Basically, your performance is about the equivalent of a dialup using a 56k modem. Which I think is okay for moderate web browsing, since the world, even me, used 56k dialup modems for a long time.
