Re: Computer Talk!!

Every time I browse on the Chinese internet looking for military pictures, all that sexy stuff keeps heading my way as pop ups, not to mention all the assorted advertisement. Places like sina, china.com, and xilu, are one pop up ad after another. I wonder what their hit count truly is. Potentially it is immense. It gives me a perception that taking all these military related pictures now has a new financial motivation on them because they can spike up the hit count.

I hate it, I don't know why Chinese websites vs. Westerns websites like to embellish their websites with massive flash designs and strong colors. They also like to clutter a lot of information together and put a lot of scroll texts. There's also a lot of java script on them. Seriously can't they keep it simple? :(

I agree guys. As I have recently discovered. And crobato mentioned that IE browser cannot handle all the flash playesr on Chinese websites. He was correct. Firefox does a much better job. But once again those Chinese sites have toooo, toooo much going on. They do need to simplify things.

What really pisses me in particular is Sina's website, with its on-your-face, free scrolling, pop up ad, that stays on the same spot in the window even as you scroll the window up.

I almost never go to Sina, but I have encountered those stay-in-the-center pop ups that you've mentioned on other websites. They are truly annoying. Good thing western websites haven't pick up such art yet.

Someone else mentioned the amount of information they have on a single page; I agree. It seems to be a trait among Chinese community websites. And do you know what I also notice? Everybody seems to have his own propertiary implementation of a message board, unlike us where phpBB is used almost exclusively.

Yes I've seen their boards too. They're very creative with the animated smilies and everything.

Re: Computer Talk!!

Oh yeah, their smilies are great. I especially like the "bunny" version. It has all the expressions you need.

I wonder if we can have that particular set of smilies here.

We do have them around a couple of sites mostly European based websites or websites for watching videos, it's annoying that is why you don't see any web designers put it on their site. I think it's mainly because Chinese web designers like this a lot because it shows off the "skills" at coding and such.
I know for instance that my school uses it on their homepage when some breaking news happens like a shooting or something. :(

Re: Computer Talk!!

OMG my computer has this virus on it, I thought I got rid of it but it keeps coming back and infecting more files, I am seriously considering doing a complete system restore. But I don't have want to go through all the trouble of installing new programs and syncing outlook again :(
