My most recent thoughts on C919

Relax, this is just one of the many growing paints C919 will experience along the way. Thankfully, Boeing & airbus will do nothing for a while
Wrong. It is Airbus which has very weird are overly ambitious plans. Blended wing body or gull wing aircraft designs for the future. Boeing and NASA will focus on much simpler truss braced wing.

C919 B-001E has resumed flight testings since after stopping in February due to the engine thrust reverser failure on B-919A. 2 test flights took placed 2 days ago.

Correction: Several C919 test planes were flying in March, and B-001F was still testing in Pudong on March 29th; In late April, B-001D and B-001E also flew in Pucheng; Entering May, B-001G is also flying in Xilingol; As for B-919A, it flew back from Hongqiao to Pudong for repair on March 23rd.

This isn't the only reason companies decide to make a new plane.

There can be a multiple number of reasons to develop a new aircraft or update an older one. Market changes, emerging technology, or airline lobbying, just to name a few.
nah, Airbus is in a dominant position right now. Makes no sense for Airbus to expend cash on the narrowbody space where it's dominating. no matter of airline lobbying will speed up their interest in bringing new product to market. Don't expect a clean sheet design from Airbus or maybe change (independent of engine improvements) until well into 2030s.

Right now Boeing is in poor financial shape. They will have enough trouble getting the existing in development models like the 737 MAX and 777X in operation this decade. As for Airbus, they will be making massive investments into new factories. They have trouble with the A220 engines. And they have two weak spots in their lineup. The A330 isn't selling all that well. And they lack a large aircraft to replace the A380 for the Middle Eastern and Asian carriers. They might make new variants of the A350 to try to address those gaps.

China Eastern Airlines said on Thursday that the first C919 aircraft, which is domestically made, will enter commercial operations soon.
The remark was made during a press briefing held by the carrier, according to stcn.com.
The company and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) officially signed a purchase agreement to buy five C919 passenger aircraft in March 2021. The first C919 aircraft was delivered to the airline at the end of 2022 and is expected enter commercial use soon, China Eastern officials confirmed.
The C919 aircraft will be operated out of Shanghai as its main base. The airline plans to complete the introduction of five C919s in 2022 and 2023, and will decide on adding extra C919s based on actual operating conditions and forward planning linked to the company's aviation network, the airline said.
In December last year, China Eastern began a total of 100 hours of C919 verification flights, aiming to lay a solid foundation for future commercial flights using the aircraft.
China Eastern said the verification process is aimed at testing the airline's ability to safely operate C919, including the applicability and operability of policies, standards, regulations and procedures formulated by the carrier in early stages of its usage.
China Eastern flight attendants participated in intensive training for the C919 to ensure smooth operation.
The world's first C919 aircraft, which is also China's first domestically developed passenger jet, was delivered to China Eastern headquartered in Shanghai on December 9, 2022.
COMAC said in January that the company expects to reach an annual production capacity of 150 C919 planes within five years, and has already received more than 1,200 orders, according to thepaper.cn.

would C919 be able to gain the FAA certification to enable it to be sold world over??? would the US and EU allow C919 in competition with Boeing and Airbus????
