Wonder why western governments didn't block the sale of LEAP engines for the c919

Such a move would have put China back by a lot at almost no cost to western governments since I don't think China can make a commercially viable civilian engine yet.

Maybe GE has really strong lobbying or bribed Trump

It is a $875 billion (upto year 2038) question and possible lost of 167,000 to 225,000 jobs in USA, if China hits back.

US threatened sanctioning LEAP-X engines in 2020 but later retracted the threat and renewed the sales license. US can't be trusted with anything.

China can buy PD-14 engine from Russia if it comes to that.

USA already sanctioned the engine to the Xian MA700. Or should I say made Canada sanction the engine sales to China.
Supposedly this is because Xian makes military aircraft. But they also claimed Huawei had ties to the military not to mention Xiaomi.
They likely want to sabotage the project only once it gets close to production for maximum effect. Perhaps even after it starts production.

That is why domestic market clout and size is important, as highlighted this case ; the US government will always sanction as and when they see fit, there is no so whatever "free market and competition" principal underpinning the US psych on supply chain matter, the only thing that prevented them from doing so is realisation for the scale of retaliative damage.

Unfortunately, there are still a very large number of CEOs who will continue to outsource critical technology components even while domestic alternatives are either on the way or already here. It's a tough nut to crack when you're catering to the market. Things like consumer boycotts can help solve this problem for certain products but China's boycotts have no staying power and they end up buying those products later on anyways when the outrage mob dies down.

It'd need to be more specific than that for Boeing to deploy their lobbyists in The Swamp...

Such as the remaining orders of 737Max for China Southern Airline? Or future orders of certain raw materials(?) by Boeing?
