COMAC C919

I wonder if there's been any news of China buying up Russia's civilian aerospace tech, now that Russian tech has basically zero hope of being exported and their domestic market isn't big enough.

Would probably also make CR929 development easier since now only China would be involved
with respect. what's wrong with you ? why you always ask silly questions.

lets suppose. if there is any big aviation sales with China. nobody can hide this news from public/social media/news.

do you know that, SU-35 still a big headache for PLAAF, how can integrate those aircrafts with rest of the squadron.

from the Beginning COMAC working as an independent civil aviation firm. even when they didn't have any domestic engines, they rejected 3 Russian proposal for developing engines in joint venture. and decided to produce own domestic machine. CJ-1000/CJ-2000 without any foreign involvement.

CR929 is a Chinese project. they invited Russians to join hands with them. entire C929 project funded by China, Research and development , design , aero dynamic tests , wind tunnel tests , main components production and assembly will take place in mainland. if plans don't go well, Chinese might kick Russian out of this project. uncertainties after Ukraine-Russia war.

i m quoting one important statement of Russian deputy PM for you..

Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said at the plenary session of the Engineers of the Future forum on June 29, 2022.

“We have this project with China, it is not going the way we would like. As China becomes an industrial giant, it is less and less interested in our services,” Borisov is quoted as saying by Russian state news agency, TASS.

Russian deputy PM thinks, China don't need any Russian tech. why you still think, China need Russian technology ?

The very fact that the joint venture was formed in the first place shows that Russian expertise still helps in certain aspects.

Sure, it's getting less and less important but just look at how Russia is using high % of composites on the MC-21 while the C919 decided to stick with aluminium to reduce delays. Essentially this means Russia will have more experience using composites on civil aircraft than China. Such experience will be useful when applied to the CR929

Is MC-21 in commercial operations? If not, the jury is still out on whether the Russkies made the right design choice.

If the Russians wanted to stick with Aluminium there would have been little point in designing the MC-21 aircraft since they already had the Tu-204. The Tu-204 is basically the same size as the future MC-21-400.

The point is it is far too early to say the composite used on MC-21 provides more benefits than costs.

Stick with aluminium for c919 is also a cautious approach for sure. Composites didn't have smooth ride on commercial aircrafts presently with delamination, paints problems, difficult repairs, etc.
Just my thoughts on this matter.

The biggest benefit to partnering with 'Russia' is to cement the Russian and associated markets, strengthen your partner's technical base, and provide risk reduction by having another certified engine and (possible) production facilities and suppliers.

The downside is increased project difficulty managing the added stakeholders and their demands, and dealing with the sanctions and possible secondary sanctions from Russian adventurism. Though the later point will be moot whenever COMAC gets sanctioned.

There will be technical abilities in both countries that will be stronger or weaker, but both countries can make aircraft independently.

I'm sure you and AVIC and its Russian counterparts are on the same page.

I think 2025 is very optimistic. Be patient. Let's see some C919 join service and how well they perform first. Don't worry so much about indigenization. It will get here when it gets here.

More important is how well C919 can perform in service and how well COMAC can manage supply chain and support in service aircraft. Maintenance cost and availability are huge for airlines. Without being competitive there, C919 is useless.
