Pointless intellectual wankfest with this. I shouldn't have said it's in service. Presenting those facts should be enough for most to make up their minds, not that what any of us think matters an iota. The original question about why UCAVs from USA, China, Russia, and Europe have not filled air superiority roles yet has been answered.

The question of why UCAVs have yet to fill "air superiority roles" is a much more complex question to answer than to clarify the meaning of what "in service" may mean for GJ-11.

And for this particular thread given it is about Chinese UAVs and UCAVs, I think it is quite useful for us to clarify what the likely service status of GJ-11 is.

The question of why UCAVs have yet to fill "air superiority" roles has already been largely answered by various replies in the last page or two including your own at 3787.
Technology for UCAVs and control of UCAVs as well as the right balance of onboard capabilities and cost and autonomy has yet to reach a sweet spot where they are a viable supplement to manned aircraft in the A2A role. In the near future it's likely that UCAVs will operate alongside manned aircraft in a MUMT fashion, acting as more attritable and dispersible stealthy weapons and sensor platforms to enhance the situational awareness and tactical flexibility of manned aircraft in the A2A role.
But the balance of tech and cost and capability probably isn't there yet.

Some people may have a vision of A2A UCAVs dogfighting against opposing fighters where the lack of a pilot will allow the UCAV to pull significant Gs, but in reality it's likely to be far less drastic, and instead will see UCAVs duplicating various elements of manned fighter aircraft (sensors, datalinking, weapons) and act as an attritable unmanned stealthy swarm/formation that supplements (and is controlled by) your manned fighters.

The sufficiency of evidence for the service status of GJ-11 depends on who the audience is. If one is trying to persuade someone that expects transparency levels like most western equipment, then a mock up of GJ-11 at national day parade barely mean much. This could be true for DF-100, DF41, DF17, modular MLR, ASBMs, UUV, all the EW/network warfare equipment, and any equipment that don't demonstrate its full capability. They could all be fake and ineffective, who knows.
For someone familiar with PLA watching, it should come as no surprise that no further official validation is provided. I would also like to add that USAF released next to no details related to RQ-180. Unlike GJ-11, there was not even a statement on its service status. Perhaps its standard practice to hide deployment details for stealth drones?

It is quite useful but all the points have been made now unless we've forgotten something. On information about GJ-11, we've got nothing except the overall shape and its likely application of what BAe called "fluidic thrust vectoring", something they've talked about but others have executed and completed before they've even flown their's ;) . Photos and short vids of a flight test prototype from nearly a decade ago and a mockup (most likely). The only thing we can say is that it should be filling some strike function as primary role. This is just from the GJ (striker) designation... but the Americans also designated the F-117 as a fighter so who knows.

We have no indication that GJ-11 is using "fluidic thrust vectoring". I believe Alert 5 made a bad post suggesting that a while back when we saw the mock up at the parade, but that was because they misinterpreted the lack of details of the control surface flaps on a mock up as "fluidic thrust vectoring".

I'm not sure why everyone is getting so hung up over GJ-11 specifically. It's a decent sized, stealthy, flying wing UCAV. If the PLA are sensible they will have multiple variants of it with different loadouts of sensors for different roles, and if they're smart they'll have many different sized stealthy flying wing UCAVs into the future to fulfill the range of different A2A, A2G, ISR, and AEW functions all in a manner that is distribute, stealthy, attritable, and autonomous.

GJ-11 is merely the first of the type for the PLA, let's not look at it as if it is meant to be some kind of final complete product or concept that wont' be greatly iterated and improved upon in coming years.

On the 7th, Harbin Institute of Technology ushered in a hundred years of establishment. The masters and students of Harbin Institute of Technology have prepared a fleet of thousands of drones to light up the sky and make the "starlight" bright at night! The unmanned aerial vehicle put out various shapes such as the logo of the 100th anniversary of Harbin Institute of Technology, which shocked the scene.
