New unit ? PLAN get yet two rgts.

Wing Loong, Hui Tong infos

A medium altitude long endurance (MALE) UCAV similar to American MQ-1 Predator has been developed by the 611 Institute/GAIC since 2005 known as Wing Loong/Pterosaur I. First flight took place in October 2007. It features a head bulge which houses a SATCOM antenna, which allows the UCAV to communicate with the ground control station via a satellite, a communication relay UAV, or direct signal transmission. A turret housing FLIR/laser range finder/laser designator was mounted under its nose for tracking and locking on ground targets in poor weather conditions. It is powered by a 100hp ROTAX 914 piston engine. The UCAV normally carries two KD-10 laser guided ATGMs as its primary weapon. It can also carry two PL-90 IR guided AAMs against slow moving aerial targets such as helicopters even enemy UAVs. In 2011 UAE was believed to have become the first foreign customer of Wing Loong. Saudi Arabia also expressed interest in acquiring Wing Loong in 2014. The latest image taken during the SCO Peace Mission 2014 military exercise confirmed that Wing Loong has been in service with PLAAF as its first operational UCAV. Some specifications: weight 1,100kg, max speed 280km/hr, range 4,000km, endurance 20hr, service ceiling 5,000m, weapon load 200kg.

Sorry, where do You get from that the PLANAF will get two Regiments !??

And regarding this particular aircraft I've hear - but not sure to admit - that they are assigned to the 32. Air Division ?
Maybe Huitong can tell us more.

Can anyone help me out regarding two very similar UAVs: the Pterodactyl and the CH-4 !

As far as I understand, the Pterosaur is operational right now ... and the CH-4 ??? Were both developed as concurring projects and the Ptero selected giving the CH-4 free for export or do I simply misunderstand both ??

they are products from different companies. Pterodactyl by Chengdu which is part of AVIC. CH-4 by CASC. Ptero seems to be the more mature design and is also offered for export.

Yes, ... but these both operate the BZK-005 strategic recce UAV, whereas the Pterodactyl is a completely different bird ... or will they also gain a second kind of UAV within the same unit ?

according to some article I remeber reading, some time a go Algeria military was interested for acquiring ch 4 uav, but crashes took place during the trials there, , allegedly they didnt lost interes due to failures. And months before that, ch 4 video was posted in this forum, and now similar video appears, maybe, designers were busy fixing air control sowtware or improving uavs airframe. Hopefully ch 4 will see wide adoption globally, since its definately a game changher in conflicts of syrian or ukranian kind. Even Russia shoud get a few units, at least for evaluaiting it, but it seems they are not smart enough
