Curious visit by Chinese officials to Uruguay - military and representatives of Norinco, but they only visited the Uruguayan Air Force headquarters to meet with the new Minister of Defence, Chief of Staff, Air Force Commander and other defense officials.

Nothing specific has come out of this meeting except that the MoD will be considering whatever was discussed.

I for one think the possibility of an offer of jet trainers from China might still be made - the L-15 had been offered again to the previous government before they announced the purchase of Super Tucanos which according to the Air Force, are replacements for the Pucarás retired in 2017.

In a recent interview the Commander of the Air Force said the replacement of the soon to be retired A-37's is needed and still hoped for while also stating that it does not appear to be on the radar of the new government.

This might well be a case of making an offer the Uruguayan government finds hard to refuse. The trading relationship between China and Uruguay remains strong and the chaos of the Trump administration's trade policy might effect the thinking in Montevideo.

No question the Air Force wants a new jet trainer/LCA, they do not want to give up that capability -

If all this this seems incredibly glacial in its progress.....you'd be correct, that how Uruguayan procurement always goes!
