China's tech giant Xiaomi, who recently joined the intelligent automaking industry, has entered into a strategic agreement with China's auto-grade MCU company, YTMicro, whose latest financing round got funds from Yangtze River Xiaomi Industry Fund, Xiaomi's joint venture with the Hubei provincial government.

According to the agreement, the financing will be put into developing YTMicro’s auto-grade MCU, the relevant vehicle application, and the market layout for the product.

Auto-grade MCU is a core semiconductor component in vehicle manufacturing. This component's usage is massive, with an average of 70 pieces used per traditional car and even twofold in smart cars.

As an integrated circuit design company, YTMicro has over 20 years of experience in developing high-performance and safe auto-grade MCU chips. The company successfully filed patents for several self-developed vehicle chips.

YTMicro’s chairman, Wang Jianzhong stated, that the company’s future will revolve around the smart, electric, connected, and sharing of new-generation vehicles. YTMicro aims to expand its business layout by using MCU chips on ADAS, domain controller, vehicle connected gateway, intelligent cabin, and autonomous driving. In the future, the company plans on bringing in more partners to fast-track the progress of its chip mass production.

As of now, two Xiaomi-backed venture capital companies, namely Yangtze River Xiaomi Industry Fund and Shunwei Capital have invested in over 20 chip manufacturers. Several of the investees are in line for an IPO, if not already, including Silicon Integrated, GalaxyCore, ASR Microelectronics, and Kiwi Instruments.

Jingjia Micro’s new JM9 GPU series with similar performance to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 officially tapes out

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

More than 2 years after the first announcement, Jingjia MIcro announces its NVIDIA GTX 1080 equivalent of GPU tapes out and finishes its packing process.

The JM9 series tapeout has been completed, according to an official statement by the company. This is the same GPU series that we have learned about 2 years ago when a relatively unknown company outside of the Chinese domestic market made a sudden announcement of their own GPU development.

The JM9 GPU series feature two GPUs. The JM9231 is an entry-level GPU that has performance comparable to GeForce GTX 1050 in official statistics. The GPU is to offer above 1.5 GHz of GPU clock, PCIe Gen3 x16 interface, 8GB of GDDR5 memory, and full compatibility with HDMI2.0 and DisplayPort 1.3. All this combined within 150W TDP. The company expects 2 TFLOPS of performance on this GPU.

A higher-end GPU called JM9271 is a 1.8 GHz model with PCIe Gen4 x16 support. Unlike the JM9231, the 9271 will feature 16GB of HBM memory, greatly improving memory efficiency, but also increasing the production complexity and cost. This GPU is to offer 8 TFLOPS of single-precision compute performance which is less than GTX 1080 8.9 TFLOPS.

@huemens bro long time no hear ;) , the way thing is shaping out, Smartphone seems like yesterday as Xiaomi , Huawei and others are moving toward the EV MCU market positioning for possible IOT first mover.

As things and cities become smarter demand for IoTs will be much more than smartphones.
It seems to me the only OS that supports and integrates all systems is Harmony OS. I don't know how difficult it will be for iOS and Android to do the same thing, but fact is Huawei is waaay ahead of those systems. In the long run, it may have been the best thing for Huawei to be blocked from using Android.

To the experts at what numbers will Harmony OS will be successful, is this enough?

I think so. A new operating system's biggest problem is the lack of apps. With a hundred million potential customers, the app developers will flock to the software ecosystem. Harmony should be very successful, and even more so if the number of users grows to 400 million as predicted.
