I read somewhere that the future of smartphones are that all your apps etc would be on the cloud and your phone would basically just be a unit to receive and transmit data to those apps on the cloud. Really futuristic.

Also theoretically, you and everyone else with your phones could decrypt bitcoins together.
If Huawei goes that direction they will find very little support for that, unless we are talking in the far future like 20~30 years from now.
You really need good cloud infrastructure, but I don't oem like this idea.

I would like a future where all I need for work is a smartphone and a pad(dock) I can place the phone on that will wireless charge and connect(screen share) to a monitor. I think if apples M1 level of performance can be achieved in a phone it would be fast enough for developers to do their work on it. HarmonyOS/EMUI is already partially there with desktop mode. Hope they can achieve this in like 5~8 years from now.

It's easy to create an OS. What's hard is to create a software ecosystem, especially one that has enough useful programs for anyone in a market outside China.

That's precisely why HarmonyOS has full support for Android apps.
Also why it supports Java/kotlin for app development so Android developers feel just at home.

Hope they will create web assembly runtime in the future. Any programming language worth it salt has a webasm compilers.

The Apple vs. Epic Games lawsuit may also offer a way to get developers to jump onto Harmony OS. Since Apple and Google pocket a substantial amount like 20-30% of all revenues from App in-game sales, Huawei should offer a big discount or special agreement to incentivize app development by non-Chinese companies on Harmony OS.

That's not going to help them if the US bans US software companies from listing their products on the App Gallery or using HMS.
But most developer will ported their app to the new OS harmony, Whatever google popular app it will be replaced with the equivalent app I saw they did replace google map with thompson map. I think there is limited app that are own by the like of google or facebook. But if the new Harmony gain traction they too will ported their app to Harmony .Time will tell

Developers will pay whatever they have to, since Apple and Google control the userbase. It's a chicken or egg problem. Without users, no developers. Without developers, no users.
