I know least about EDA, but

Metrology: Dongfang Jingyuan CD-SEM (5-40 nm) and optical metrology (10 nm)

We've discussed lithography, ion implant, PVD, CVD, dry etch quite a bit in this thread so I won't repeat.

Some things I don't know about:

1. Wet etchers
2. Electrochemical deposition
3. Probe card systems

So except for those 3, I'm confident that 28 nm is in reach, except immersion ArF lithography. And even for immersion ArF it is just a matter of time, and in the meanwhile, there's Nikon struggling to survive.
I hope that their yield are also competitive to foreign offerings as well.

This news is not directly related to China, but actually it is. Intel has already delayed and maybe is going to cancel a big order with TSMC.

"Intel is said to have delayed mass production to the end of 2023, virtually cancelling the 3nm chip production capacity that it had booked with TSMC for most of next year. As a result, TSMC has apparently been "greatly affected" by the move, forcing it to slow its expansion of 3nm chip production"

TSMC capacity expansion plan is totally relying on the unpredictable volubility of US customers. What a risky policy for such multi billion investments!

After the recent events with Pelosi's visit, it is now clear to everybody (it was already) that US will cut its dependence on Taiwan's semiconductors as fast and as quickly as possible. Taiwan island is prone to a blockade by China at any time. US companies would be totally fool to bet their business on TSMC......and TSMC would be totally fool to bet its business on US:

@european_guy so bro will Apple cancel theirs, with cost escalation and looming recession? will the Chinese not buy any Apple product as a retaliation? What I recommend to the Chinese consumer when buying any brand foreign or domestic is to demand that every component should be made in China. IF Intel want to sell in China then they have to put a FAB, NO if nor but, symbolism like Apple did in removing made in Taiwan in their product is not acceptable anymore.

On a side note, will these affect TSMC 2nm plan? and of Samsung? cause the clear winner of all this is SMIC.

@ansy1968 bro I think the customer always has the upper hand.

As long as Apple will make a lot of money selling in China, and as long as many US companies will make a lot on money in China, then US will be in some way constrained and will refrain itself in its actions (if not else, due to strong internal lobbying) and we will be spared the worst. I think Chinese government is very wise in keeping Apple up and running in China.

The main reason why US hawks are desperately pushing for economic decoupling, is just because this would give US more free hands. See what happened with Russia in the last century! One of the main enablers of a multi-decade cold war was that the 2 economies were almost totally decoupled and this made the block confrontation very effective.

I am for peace and for a multipolar world, so I hope US and China economic bounds will be even stronger in the future. This IMO is the best antidote to dangerous crisis.

@european_guy No bro I'm not espousing the boycott of Apple, on the contraire they help China a lot, BUT from what I seeing, Apple will be force to choose and I think they will follow what US gov't demand, they are after all and foremost a US company.

bro concur with a twist, they're not the only big boy around and here the US can't decouple cause they don't have the resources to support all of the Collective West, the Ukraine War have seen the ineptness of the US, their plan reshoring of industries will take decades to fulfilled and may not have the result they wanted, an example Intel may not proceed with their investment plan in Ohio, citing the economic uncertainty.

Me too bro hope for world peace BUT the trust had been raptured, I predict in retaliation China will divest its investment in the Collective West, forbade its company in investing in any project associated with them and preparing for possible sanction. Putin maybe saying to Xi "I told You So" and the Chinese will focus on other markets, For me its a good thing cause us in the global South will readily welcome those investment.

BTW this is the company that ASML accuses of IP infringement

This is why ASML CEO "Supply Chain" Wennink is so concerned about this IP theft, and I've written about it in several articles. The IP is now in China. ASML spend $850 billion in R&D on this software IP over 10 years. China got it in 1 day for $0. This suggests Chinese lithography companies will soon catch up to ASML, provided some of the last remaining issues such as the wafer stage for better overlay are resolved.
