The lead 054A/P frigate for Pakistan has gone on her maiden trials. Sorry about the image quality, I couldn't find anything better.

Pretty impressive sets of mushrooms! Are there further improvements to the China's version?

How does the main radar compare to SMART-S?

Appears similar, and also to the smaller Russian Furke-2 radar, the German Cassidian TRS-3D and the British BAE Artisan 3D radars.

Compared to SMART-S, this radar may have a range advantage. We are only looking at the S-band variant in this chart showing a family of radars. That's 250km against a 2m2 RCS object, as in a small fighter sized. SMART-S Mk. 2 is 250km maximum range, both instrumented and against a patrol aircraft. So there is room there for a greater range, and likely can be over 300km+ against larger RCS sized aircraft like bombers or fully laden fighters. So it might be comparable to the Fregat or Type 382 in terms of range but smaller.

Other than that, likely similar standard shill feature list: pulse compression, digital multi-beamforming, solid state, high ECM resistance, yada yada.

is it a search only or search and guide radar? I'm also curious about its power level compared to SMART-S and Type 382

It can be used to update datalinks for antiship missiles and SAMs, but for this in particular its not going to do terminal guidance for semi-active SAMs. That's to be expected for search radars of this category, e.g. SMART-S Mk. 2. The Front Domes will do the terminal guidance for the HQ-16s. The main radar will tell where the Front Domes are going to be pointed at, and the Front Domes will take it from there.

For this ship however, the guidance functions should only be used as a backup, due to the presence of other specialist radars such as the Type 366 for antiship and Type 364 for self defense. As the radar is intended to be used for a variety of ships, putting it on something like a Type 056 corvette, like the Bangladesh C13Bs where you don't have the other secondary radars, the radar will have to provide update guidance to the antiship missiles and cue the HQ-10 launcher at the targets. On a larger ship with the Type 366 and 364 present, the secondary radars will do these respective functions, unless they are broken at the time of the engagement.

No info on the power level, but I would expect it to be comparable to the Type 382, as feeding from the same power infrastructure and the radar has similar range performance. That should be about 100kw.

Because of the presence of other radars --- the Type 517E VHF radar, the Type 364, the Type 366, the Type 347G, and the four Front Domes --- the main radar becomes less of a main radar and become more a part of a cast ensemble that seems both crowded and redundant. The Type 517 might have a range from 300km to 400km and can detect stealthier objects. although at a low resolution. Type 366 might be able to pick up ships up to 450km via OTH, and the Type 364 is designed for a higher tracking rate, higher resolution against incoming low flying targets.
