New armored vehicle built in Iraq. Is this a VN-22 variant?
Apparently Iraq bought the entire production line for this! This design must be really good for it to make a lot sales despite being just 2 years old unlike other norinco models which are far older, but no sales. Also, note the Chinese gatling gun.
Probably the need to replace the malfunctioning BTR-4's and old BTR-80's while also trying to recover some of the local manufacturing capability
That manned, open top, gatling gun turret is ridiculous. I'm guessing it was picked because it's easier for Iraq to make themselves than the remote turret.
More pictures and videos of the Iraqi VN-22 in action. According to this account, the Iraqi minister praised the CS/LM5 for its high accuracy and are considering unmanned turret options.
