As cool as all this sounds and actually is! This news is more than three years old and deals with theoretical stuff. It's not exactly possible to weaponise such a thing and test it as some sort of world destroyer.

I agree that ripping apart fabric of space time is theoretical and in the future. When the Chinese team hoped to achieve output 100 million-billion-watts.

How is that 30 kilowatt, or 100 kilowatt or even 1MW. going to compare against 5.3 million billion watts ? Which was 3 over years ago?
While that full 5.3 million billion watts might not be weaponisable, how about just only 0.1% or 0.01% of 5.3 million billion watts ?
How big is a single cylinder of titanium-doped sapphire about the width of a Frisbee.? For output of only 0.1% or 0.01% of 5.3 million billion watts should even be smaller I assume?

Power=force*speed
speed=distance/time

means:
energy=power*time
time(pulse length)=energy/power
Above means that an 5.3 billion watt laser doesn't necessary to be able to burn through my skin event, if the energy of it is negligible (say 1 joule).

all that it takes is to divide the 1 joule with the 5.3 billion watt, and the resulting number is the pulse length .

So , the continuous energy of the laser can be 10 watt, and the peak energy 5.3 billion watt.
This type is not usable for any military purpose .

This are just random number, to show the pointless kind to compare the peak energy with the continuous energy.

Destroying the world is insanity. Developing such a weapon may be a good insurance policy but realistically the best thing coming out of this particular project/experiments are the technologies developed from it like the crystals and understanding the physics. Could be applied to other commercial and military sectors.

Chinese laser tech is almost ignored due to scarcity of english literature but from following Chinese advancements both in military and scientific publications, I'd say it's basically between the Americans and Chinese in this field who can actually hope to realistically create offensive DEW out of lasers. The ABM laser the Americans played with a decade ago is a good example. I'm sure they've improved the energy consumption and size of the thing. These little toys everyone's got on their trucks are a joke compared to what the US and China have been playing with. Meanwhile the Turks talk up their laser pointer because it supposedly managed to score a Low Altitude drone kill. Laughable.

That's so sensationalised. Can any of these western writers find balance, objectivity, truth, and accurate information? Apart from the tender info, everything else mentioned is worthless conjecture/ made up bullshit. Must be hard with that political agenda weighing down on them though.

It's like they are legally obliged to portray extremes of China only. It's either ridiculously negative or positive. China simultaneously exists as the greatest, well organised, cunning threat and the most incompetent fool.
