chinese laser weapon development

The analysis of AN/SPY-1 missed one important fact. The arrays are not oriented vertically but are oriented at an angle so there is literally no blind spot directly above the ship. AEGIS is designed to track and defeat known anti-ship missiles and some of these are high divers, coming in from very high altitudes and diving vertically on the ship. AEGIS can track these effectively. Both ESSM and RAM can engage such cruise missiles and routinely do in exercises with high mach high diver surrogates such as AQM-37 and GQM-163.
For BDM, some here seem to have missed the detail that SM-2 Block IV is designed to deal with ballistic missiles after re-entry to the atmosphere. SM-3 can engage exoatmospheric ballistic missiles before they begin re-entry and terminal maneuvers. SM-2 Block IV deals with them upon re-entry.

Some interesting pictures from CD. Does any one know whether those are civilian or military lasers?

The 3rd and 5th pictures resemble the turret for the US-Israeli THEL -- I can't imagine a civlian use for those kind of emplacements... And the 4th picture shows a massive, obviously rotatable stand -- ASAT laser anyone? :p
The second picture looks like some kind of stability platform.

Any idea what the first is supposed to be?
Seige, did the poster on CD say these photos were of Chinese origin?

The poster didn't say anything, but this is heavily implied. Peishens, a famous leaker, started a thread about how a new 100kw CO2 anti-missile laser was going to be installed on the new Chinese destroyer a few days ago and the discussions on the Navy section of CD has been dominated by laser related talks lately. The guy who posted the pictures was a new poster (it is speculated that he is the twin account of some other leaker).

I am guessing that the first picture is the lasing medium used? Should've paid more attention when I was interning with my professor lol.

Also if you enlarge the third picture you can see that the words on the plaque on the left side of the laser (from your perspective) appears to be Chinese.

Intruiging... The electrical requirements for a single 100 kw laser wouldn't be insignificant, and if it was emplaced on a destroyer there would be at least two such weapons -- nuclear power?
Let's hope these rumors come to be true.
But I'm getting ahead of myself -- good find regardless.

Hmm yes I think you're right. And also at the bottom of that control module or whatever, some chinese characters may be visible as well.

I don't think it will be nuclear powered. Apparently it was leaked in an official paper, recently, that PLAN had a major breakthrough with ship-board powerplant recently. I'll try and look for the paper.

A paper on miniaturizing high powered (100kw) CO2 laser. Apparently the device fires in pulses. I don't know whether it has military applications or not.

The abstract is in English:

First picture, i have no ideia of what it is.

Second picture, its some kind of moveable platform, akin to the ones used in flight simulators.

third picture, a primitive laser platform

fourth picture, as blitzo said, a massive rotatable stand. Much bigger than THEL. However something is not right in this picture: where is the background? also the stand appears old and damaged.

fifth picture, a small rotatable stand mounting a laser ring. Probably a developing/testing device.

fourth and fifth pictures appear to be quite old, and to a lesser extent, second and third. Judging by the pictures, are you sure they werent taken from a museum ?

I have no idea whether they are old, new, primitive, modern, or if they are military lasers or even Chinese at all. This is why I've posted it here - so I could gather some expert opinion.
