It was the technology demonstrator that sank during the early stages of development. The vehicle was recovered from the lake and carefully examined. See below for the full the documentary. Around 32:38 mark, the development team was relieved that the cause of the sinking was operator error, not design or fabrication flaws.

Nice! So it is pretty clear now that the IFV carries the same number of soldiers and crew as a Bradley: 3 crew (1 driver, 1 gunner and 1 vehicle commander), 7 soldiers (6 in the back, one in the front). I've been wondering how many soldiers the 8x8 IFV can carry. Now I clearly saw the compartment of 6 soldiers, as well as that hatch right behind the driver's hatch, it's pretty much clear now.

I think the fairer comparison should be the Stryker. The IFV variant of the Stryker carries about the same number of troops as the ZZBL-08.

However, unlike the Stryker, ZBL-08's seats are suspended from the ceiling to mitigate tertiary injuries from mine or IED blasts. Stryker's seats are mounted directly on the floor, so that in the event of a blast under the vehicle, the shockwave can directly travel to the seats and onto the occupants, potentially causing spinal and other skeletal injuries.

Have to update some here Stryker has gone through a number of rebuilds and upgrades. The initial Stryker was only flat bottom modern versions have v hulls in most types. Initial had bench seats common on armored vehicles pre 2003 modern versions have shock absorbing seats. They had them as far back as 2009.

Stryker until recently wasn’t an IFV it was an ICV which is a newfangled way of saying APC that carried 9 infantry + 2 crew. The Stryker Dragoon added a medium caliber weapon making it an IFV By treaty but no match in terms of protection. Well still seating the full load.

Amphibious armored reconnaissance vehicle based on ZBD-05's chassis. The retractable mast mounts visible light and infrared cameras, a laser range finder, and a millimeter wave radar. The vehicle is equipped with the Beidou satellite positioning system as well as INS navigation. It can also launch small drones to further augment its recon range. Also note the new turret/gun shield just behind the driver's compartment.
