Chinese Engine Development

IMO, if Taishan continues in a non-afterburning version, it can not be said to be aborted. Same engine, different variants.

That answer about "WS-10B being 14kgf" is confusing. Depending on whether 14kgf includes AB or not, the "IPE" version may be WS-10B.

Taishan was the code name given to the afterburning version which, according to the poster, has been aborted. Given that he says the WS-13E is also under development, it would mean that China had two RD-33/93-class engines in simultaneous development which is absolutely stupid and a waste of resources, so I'm glad they cancelled one of them. Now the non-afterburning WS-12 will probably be used on UAVs when development finishes.

The WS-10B definitely only has 14 tonnes of thrust with afterburner. No fighter jet engine in the world now or ever in history had 14 tonnes of thrust without afterburner. For reference, the F135 engine, he most powerful fighter engine in the world today, only has 12.8 tonnes of thrust without afterburner.

Thanks for the clarification of WS-10.

However, this is the first time that I heard of two simultaneous mid-thrust engine projects. I always have the impression that there is only one project, two versions, AB and non-AB, whatever codename. The cancellation of one version does not mean the cancellation of the project. I am afraid that there is a confusion and misunderstanding due to the wording and code names and type names.

That is the wrong way of looking into Turbofan industry. Designing and testing Turbofan take a long time . So it is better to perfect and continue improve the engine. The application will come It could be long range and heavy UAV(HALE) not necessary a fighter jet or could be something else
The PLAN allegedly has a medium V/STOL or STOVL fighter in the works; this engine could be a candidate for such a fighter.

What would be the use of such an aircraft. Harriers were developed because of the believe in the fifties and sixties that they were necessary to continued fighting after the air bases were destroyed. F-35B is there to enable the US Marines to use their amphibs as a base for supersonic attack aircraft without being allowed to equip these ships with cats and traps. Both arguments are not valid for PLAAF and PLAN. What argument is there to justify the development of such an extremely expensive aircraft by China?

Another AL-31F engined J-10 accident and killed the best looking female pilot.

All the recent accidents are related AL-31F and yet China recently bought a new batch of them from Russia.

AL-31F fast becoming the new Opium for China and propagates the Sickman of Asia. Highly Addictive and Deadly.

What's the cause of the crash? FBW system failure? Bird strike? Inadequate maintenance? How can you know? And how can you be so presumptuous as to lay on your knee-jerk accusations with such absolution?

engine stalling

not even twin engined would help as the recent J-15 killed another one.

Is this true?. I say so many time on this forum that AL31F is junk. They should just junk them. Why don't they use WS10B is beyond me . Maybe some one get kickback?.
I don't think they bought new batch other than that Japanese sources or rumor nobody said the same.
They killed the best looking female pilot I'm mad!
