Chinese Engine Development

I don't think the new nozzles are longer externally (although the divergent section inside certainly seems to be), only the hinged flaps are. Makes it look a bit like a cross between the EJ200 and P&W F100!
They look a bit shorter than longer looking at the elevators, would be nice to have a top view of both !

This particular gif is taken from an interview with a J-16 pilot.

I know and if you saw my comparison I already noted the new one is on a J-16, but I wanted to add, this engine was also seen on a J-11BG.

Why does china needs another batch of russian aircraft engines? to replace the engines in older russian-equipped aircraft? because the production of domestic engines isnt enough?

Disregard the "article". Topwar.ru is Minnie Chan level.

Keep in mind the AL-31 is still equipped on much more than 500 aircraft and the newest J-15 are still suspected to carry the AL-31. So China will have a need for AL-31s for a very long time unless it plans to replace AL-31s with WS-10s as a upgrade but so far we haven't seen anything like it.
This all goes if it is even true that they are ordering a new batch as the article doesn't provide enough information about it and takes it as common knowledge.

I swear these people are so oblivious to the reality of the PLAAF nowadays. Not only do they ignore that WS-10s went from J-11s to J-16s and then J-20s and J-10s and have displaced the Al-31 as the main engine from which we can infer a lot about performance and reliability they also have the tendency to make shit up on the fly but what else can you expect from Indian and Russian media.

Why is India or Indians a party to this discussion? A country that can't even build an engine is pitching in for what?

And what about all the aircrafts that were built with AL-31fs. Don't they need spare engines or replacement engines?

Russians are quite famous for their braggadocio regarding their weapon systems. Nothing new. It's the only thing they have of some worth other than oil.

There are multiple possible reasons

1- China needs engines for future engine replacements as it has hundreds of Russian-engined fighters.
2- China made a deal with Russia that necessitates an order from the Russian defense industry.
3- China needs more engines than it can produce.
4- The news is bogus. And to be honest, this wouldn't surprise me a little bit.

If technological development can be assessed by questions like this, then I want to ask a question too. Why China has replaced AL-31F with WS-10 in 4 different aircraft?

Salyut discloses their sales on their website. Where is the source that China purchased more AL-31 variants post 2018?

Also, the original Chinese interview made no mention of MKI at all. Unlike members from a certain sour puss military professionals in active service with the Chinese military rarely make dumbass comparisons with other country's gear directly. My understanding is that the J-16 pilot previously flew the MKK and that's what the comparison is based on.

Also where is the Indian proof that China imported more AL-31 engines or are seeking to acquire more? Do they have more info that Russia engine manufacturers or did they get it from the same place where they found 45 PLA casualties?

China’s J-20 Stealth Fighter is Getting a Major Boost - Thanks to Russia

China has struggled to build a sufficiently-powerful engine for the J-20 domestically, which is just as important as a thrust-vectoring capability. Ultimately the newest variant of the Chinese-built J-20, the J-20B, is intended to be equipped with powerful Chinese-designed WS-15 engines that would offer increased performance, likely better fuel efficiency, and a higher-altitude flight envelope. But because the production of the newer engine is lagging behind schedule, China has opted for a foreign design made in Russia.

While the

engine does offer superior thrust output and improves the J-20 platform’s flight characteristics, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force would no doubt prefer not relying on foreign-sourced engines and move J-20B engine production to China.
