This never works. A good example would be Taiwanese farmers, who are the biggest DPP supporters. When the mainland purchases agricultural products from Taiwan, it is just 统战 tactics. But if the mainland cuts off trade and the farmers suffer, the CPP are the devil-incarnate and they support the DPP even more.
@siegecrossbow Did China apply the withdrawal syndrome strategy? if you're used to good life are you willing to let it go for a principle? let see how the Aussies , TW and others will react if it become permanent.

If not China who then can you sell that much Agri products. Western producers have pretty much saturated the markets they had access too. So for a system that needs eternal growth there's not much they can really do.
The alternative is not selling and making money. The agriculture business is vulnerable to nature let alone international politics. They take what they can get. Also they plant according to how much has been ordered. That's why this article was written by a non-farmer and just throwing out bull. Who thinks if US farmers have product to sell and most likely it's perishable, they'll bother to care who's buying?

US with its efficient propaganda is turning China into an enemy of Burmese people. Now Chinese economic interests in the region are being threatened.
@Kaeshmiri I've been to Myanmar Feb of 2020 there is no hatred against the Chinese, me and my group had Chinese features and clearly stand out and we talk Fukienese Chinese dialect when walking the street of Yangon that article is clearly a fake news propaganda against China.

This is a typical tactic of Western media, using fake stories to create a false sense of consensus. It's just like the time they reported on ethnic Mongolians protesting against Chinese education reforms, only to use pictures of protesters in the country of Mongolia.

Hi @solarz , the Burmese are grateful for the Chinese development aid and businesses , it provide them jobs to support their families. They're so poor, Yangon the capital is like our 3rd tier city and compare to Manila they are 25 years behind. The infrastructure is outdated and is in need of major investment. The people that I talk to are happy with Suu Kyi but lament the lack of development , they say that the west talk the talk but always had an excuse when being press to cough up the money.

It is not that difficult to pay a few dozens or even a few hundreds of protesters to steer grievances toward China. But China is the only game in town. Myanmar needs Chinese investment no matter who is in charge.
