Chinese Economics Thread

Those missile defense means nothing once China's HGV becomes mature enough to get through them with ease in a few years (NOT decades). Remember China has the most successful and advanced HGV program in the world with several successful launches from the past years to prove it. That's why the Pentagon are so nervous and their media mouth piece wouldn't want to talk too much about it. After all, it's all about the program.

I'm under the impression that the HGV program was concentrating on intermediate distances, about as far as the 2nd island chain.

Hope the services sector and resulting consumption keeps growing, this is what will ensure China's future. I remember many years ago, way before the GFC economist were warning about an economy reliant too much on export. Thank god the current administration realise it and hope it is not too late.
I disagree, its not services and consumption that will be China's economic future. Its moving up the value chain that will ensure China's economic future. You can't build a economy on shops and shoppers.

"We need more jobs," Cook told CNBC's Josh Lipton. "Everyone needs to do their fair share. We can do that without trade wars."

floated the idea[/a]of a 20% border tax on goods crossing into the U.S. from Mexico, and Trump has said several times that he's considering a tariff or other restrictions on goods from China, where Apple manufactures most of its products.

"The border tax would hit the middle-class consumer," Cook told CNBC. "The U.S. and China need each other. The world needs the U.S. and China to win."

If Trump's US wants to continue being protectionist & keep the country isolated from their former trade partners, than Asia (with China, the new leader of global trade & investment), the EU and others must carry on, and leave the US to its own devices. We in Asia should NEVER tolerate bullying and arrogance which regretfully is now shown by the Trump Administration. Confucius saying (551-479) "To see what is RIGHT and NOT to do it is want of courage" ..... Trump and his cohort should heed these wise words - but I doubt they would....

Maybe the Australian members here can give more details from this breaking news but the fallout between Trump and the Australian Prime Minister over refugees was really about China according to some news sources. Trump wanted something from Australia in order for Trump to accept these refugees. That says something big if natural allies have a break like this where someone would leak it to the public letting the Chinese know. What does Australia have that Trump needs against China that Australia would see as too risky for them that they would refuse the US?

Where have you read this? So far from most places I've read seems to suggest it is about refugees
