Navalny is just a blip. His party doesn't even have 5% support. Pure US propaganda.
All economic liberals in Russia fell out of favor in the late 1990s after the disasters they caused in Russia.
No one wants these people. They might convince some kids with their propaganda but anyone who lived through the 1990s doesn't want these people in power.

The person currently most likely to be a candidate if Putin wasn't around would be someone like Sergey Shoygu. All indications point he would be even more inflexible towards the West and he has a platform of development of Siberia and the Arctic.

Indeed. As I said, Russia and China are neighbours and must live with each other. And Russian resources will always find their way to China. It makes so much sense.

However, Russian politics can't be said to be that reliable. We are seeing in real time how certain adversaries are fomenting Political troubles in Russia by supporting anti-establishment elements like Navalny. Russia is still a democracy which has elections and what happens when a pro-west person pulls a win? What happens when a future leader is very Anti-China?
Just like in the US they will meet the real leaders of the state the permanent members of the deep state. It would be a shame if you slipped and fell on a bunch of bullets when showering. It will not easy to convince Russian elites to miss their opportunity in Asia.

Navalny is really weak, his team tried to claim having skyrocketed the russian communist party.

Sorry but it's more likely Juan Guaido becomes president of Russia than Navalny

It's more likely that Navalny leads his team to win Super Bowl 2022.

Soviet Union had Ukrainian/Georgian at top most of the time and all in between. Chinese have Chinese leadership so it got better developed with all that governance experience translated into better reforms later. but Russia now has much more competitive political and economic system with interest rates closer to inflation and Ruble closer to convertibility.
Greater percentage of Russian population has exposure to West/Middleast than %age of Chinese population overseas exposure. infact i will not be surprised few millions Russians studied at German universities. Russian engineering and corporate system is more closer to original Germanic system not the current Germany.
and that efficiency and quality is practically translated into prices to end consumer. like after refining and petrol stations margins. or electricity prices to end consumers. Russia simultaneously exporting electricity to 10 countries as the system is built for robustness and redundancies. There is maximum domestic engineering in Aviation. They dont feel too much engineering resources should be utilized on automobiles as it is traffic control on ground. A society that has so indepth understanding of reality cannot elect stupid.

Putin's policy to "Look East" started in 2014-2015 and China embraced it when Trump started his trade war.

Only thing that is needed, is time. Time to get people together. Time to increase trade. Time to have more people learning Chinese/Russian languages. Increase cultural events. More media reporting to the other country

As times passes the people will naturally get closer to each other. In my opinion, the ultimate long term goal should be a relationship similar to the one of France-Germany.

Even with so little years in this process, the relationship of people on the ground has grown steadily. And then there are business links, trade dependencies, interests in favour of China, military, national security establishment etc

So China shouldnt feel too much bothered (some risks remain of course). By 2025 the relationship would be much closer

There is already annual trade of $100 bln and the goal is in few years to reach $200 billion!

This is why I'm amazed when people tell me that Russia is just waiting for an opportunity to backstab. China and Russia no longer have any territorial issues and share similar values.

Shoigu even talked about creating 3~5 new big Russian Cities in the eastern part of their nation. If I'm not mistaken Shoigu was even talking about moving the Russia capital to Siberia. So the Russia people would move eastwards as their will be many new chances of a better life.
