I think it's only natural. As China and other non aligned countries rise up and close the gaps in Comprehensive national power, the power of sanctions weld by the US and allies wanes.

US sanctions are powerful not just because of US but also because of compliance by its allies. It's power is still considerable but not as before (1990s,2000s).

The answer to retain the strength of sanctions for US is to keep growing in Comprehensive National strength and build more alliances. That's not been the case since 2010s. My only question is -

Didn't the powers that be at Washington see it coming?

Or were they under the delusion that all is well in their city atop the Hill?
White supremacy is a hell of a drug.

For decades-centuries even- white western nations told themselves and told others that "China can't innovate" "china lacks freedom so it'll always be copying".
Fast forward to the present where a white anglo government is attempting to steal Tiktok and Huawei patents because they failed to innovate themselves.

Also the strength of US military relative to others (read China) .... is one of main factors

Certainly but that comes under the Comprehensive National Strength. A China that can produce almost all of its military weapons and a China that has to import them (like India) are two different things.

US does not want any country to be able to do the former. I think Turkey is a good case .
I believe that US has succeeded in stymieing Turkey's work towards CND. I think it was overt and covert. EU probably has a bigger stake in seeing Turkey not rise too much.

All in the name of "Freedom" and "Democracy."

"Chen Pei-jer, a scholar with Taiwan's top research institution, resigned last week from the island's COVID-19 vaccine review committee. Chen criticized Tsai for making comments that could put pressure on the vaccine review committee to approve vaccines made in Taiwan."

"Tsai authorities' action of forcing people to use locally produced vaccines, which haven't undergone a Phase-III trial, has sparked public outrage in Taiwan."

Globaltimes.cn is on the attack against American slanderous accusations.

If an investigation is really intended to better prepare the world for unexpected epidemics in the future, there is no doubt that all countries would welcome it without reservation. But the US interference in the WHO investigation undermines that possibility.

In early 2020, COVID-19 cases in the US soared to tens of millions within weeks, was that a sudden outbreak or actually a failure to cover-up? In late 2019, why on earth did the US Army suddenly close the biological lab at Fort Detrick, Maryland? What are the 200-plus overseas bio-labs of the US set for? Will the White House invite WHO experts to conduct origin tracing in the US and its labs?

Faced with the ravaging pandemic, the US government failed to protect more than 600,000 lives in America by playing down the virus, should the US be held accountable?

IMO globaltimes is a pretty terrible publication with lots of unprofessional-sounding, unjournalistic terms. It doesn't really change the minds of americans or other english readers who will take one look at it and dismiss it as a tabloid.

Chinese publications in english are very far from the levels of NYT, Al Jazeera, DW, BBC, who can blatantly lie while sounding nuanced and professional.
