its why Bannon told Trump its 10x more important to kill Huawei than to sign trade deal. Trade war was US trying to get China to abandon the system of governance that was worked so well, US wanted China to make these internal structural changes because like always US wants to cheat and dont like true competitiors

Huawei was the tip of iceberg, America is afraid of more like Huawei on the horizon... it wants China to kneecap itself so this never plays out

Trump was furious Huawei makes 5G and Americans can't make 5G.

Its more than that.. whatever they accuse China is always projection... they want the ability to keep spying on all countries and also hold the cards where if they needed to they could shutdown the communications of any nation that didnt bend to Uncle Sam. If Huawei 5G got mass worldwide adoption they would lose these leverages and extortion abilities in the future...

Also 5G is one of the elements of the equation that fortellls the end of dollar hegemony. Its why they wanted to ban tiktok. They want to own the entire stack so the dollar can never be circumvented

That's why they should ban Chinese students :D:p:cool:
Currently China is at the cusp of transitioning to a high tech economy. Retaining more local talent is beneficial if it's able to provide sufficient opportunities for them. International cooperation is still an important component. Investment into STEM field still needs to be at a much higher level. Anti-poverty campaign is a net positive because it brings previously subsistence farmers into the greater Chinese economic circulation through education, infrastructure and capital, but welfare like that occurs in most Western nations would be detrimental to long term productivity growth. The fact remains that productivity isn't generated by poor people in a market system, although its also very important to provide them sufficient opportunities to maximize their potential. Too much direct welfare produces a lazy population.

Huawei serves as an example for other Chinese enterprises. There certainly will be more companies like Huawei if the US doesn't deal with them effectively. From Bannon's perspective, a trade deal with China isn't going to make or break America's hegemony but more companies like Huawei in international markets would damage its ability to hold a monopoly and ultimately ability take unilateral action.

It's not just the political class that dislikes competition but also the capital class. Those entrenched within industries that will face growing competition will try to diminish their competitors capabilities, including lobbying for government action. Some of the capital class will use this as an opportunity to negotiate a lower price to invest into Chinese markets thus having higher returns, they will join in the attack on China. They've made it clear they want to invest in China but on their terms. Either way China is going to face stiff competition and opposition in the short to mid term.

A powerful nation facing criticism is natural, what's important is the facts on the ground. If a nation cannot be robust enough to handle frictions it doesn't deserve to become a powerful nation. Israel for example faces immense international criticism and has enemies surround it but doesn't matter how one feels about them, they are still a technological leader in defence and other civilian technologies, its people are able to live a relatively prosperous life.

Boris johnson said he was “fervently Sinophile” and determined to improve ties “whatever the occasional political difficulties”.

Western leaders are addicted to being two-faced. Weeks ago, BoJo was talking about D10 and joining the Quad to counter China. China needs to treat these people like mental patients and consider all their statements as farts.

SAN ANTONIO — As millions of Texans shivered in dark, cold homes over the past week while a winter storm devastated the state’s power grid and froze natural gas production, those who could still summon lights with the flick of a switch felt lucky.

Now, many of them are paying a severe price for it.
“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”

Curious how American's complain about "shoddy Chinese quality". During the cold-freeze in China earlier in December last year, I don't recall any pipes freezing and bursting, and apart from minor power shortages, nothing serious. In Texas, meanwhile...

Politicians (or people by extent) can say anything. He can say he's Sinophile while planning to arrest a Chinese national and or sending warships to China. The US presidents were all saying humanitarian aids and human rights while bombing other countries. We shouldn't so naively feel flattered by hearing such diplomatic rhetoric. The US, Canada, the UK and Australia are the one same kind. I wouldn't believe any wishful thinking of them not aligning with each other.
