Chinese casualties during the Korean War

"Human wave" assaults occurred, but were rare. The main tactics used by the PVA can be characterized as infiltration and night attacks. There are some good resources out there about the Korean conflict to dispel some of these popular misconceptions about PVA tactics. Perhaps this thread would be a good place to compile some links.

My father fought in the Korean war and he told me that the Kill ratio was about ten to one. I dont know if he was counting the NKA though.

You said your father was in the Air Force? He might have been refering to the often-stated 10 to one USAF to enemy (includes NKs, Chinese and Russians) A2A kill ratio. This statistic has been disputed; the USAF did kill quite a few more aircraft than it lost but not 10 to one, not with the best pilots the Soviets had flying a lot the communist missions. Towards the end of the war the Russians pulled most of their pilots out, having accomplished what they wanted to do. Poorly trained Chinese and North Koreans under Soviet supervision stepped in and the USAF was able to rack up a lot of kills on those poor guys.

Here's most reliable source i've found that actually gives the Chinese point of view on the war.

I think Question 34, 35 & 36 are a little bit hassy ended...

From my point of view, the Korean war had not only taught the world that the PRC will fight on any aggressive enemy/enemies that is/are intervening the Chinese's soreverignty of PRC. It was natural for them to retatilate any aggressor when UN forces were near the Yalu river despite PRC's warning.
