Should China still be doing these paratrooper exercises?

I almost never see paratrooper drops in 21st century wars. According to Google, the United States only did one paratrooper drop in the entire Vietnam War.

Ukraine and the VDV's experience also show the difficulty paratroopers face in modern warfare, against modern air defenses.

Paratrooping could prove useful in a taiwan scenario where China is able to keep the air defenses suppressed which is likely as taiwan has no tactical depth. The VDV failure in ukraine was brought by overestimation and poor planning by the Russian government that it'll be quick and easy.

With air defenses supressed, they should also be able to extent far more air support, whether droned or manned.

And alongside that, will come ISR allowing for long range standoff weapons from the mainland being able to hit stuff on demand if needed as well.

Not to mention, they can drop the various types of 'mountain cat' vehicles, that can pack quite the heavy punch, depending on their loadout.

With that said, the biggest threat is more likely handheld anti-air weapons, since more concealable and harder to find.

More operational parachute drops were done during the Rhodesian Bush War then in all of the history of Airborne operations put together
