Well, I hope this is the first of many deals. Afghanistan needs outside expertise to allow them to sell natural resources found on their land. China can provide money and expertise. Now, if they can just figure out the security situation, we will be all good here.
how do they even get their resources out? I recall Pakistan's Gwadar port receives exports from afghanistan by road then load them onto ships. building a railroad to Gwadar might become necessary if Taliban really wants to reap the benefit of trade. would be funny if, after years of NATO occupation, that they would undertake major infrastructure projects only after gaining independence.

Forget about trade via gwadar ports. Since hostilities on Pakistan Afghanistan borders has increased, it is impossible for any infrastructure plan there.

If they can truck it over the border into Turkmenistan or Iran, there's a direct rail link to China.
