American defense firm Lockheed Martin said it is expecting that the US government will soon present its formal offer to the Philippines for the sale of the fourth-generation F-16 fighter jets.

Part of the package also includes an innovation center for aerospace workforce development and a joint development project for Indigo IV unmanned aerial systems.

Didn't Philippines just place an order for a new batch of FA-50s? It seems unlikely that they'd go and buy F-16s at the same time. It feels like Lockheed Martin is just doing more advertising.

The US Department of State in April approved a potential sale of 20 F-16 Block 70 multi-role aircraft to the Philippines worth $5.58 billion (P312 billion).

279 million USD per aircraft. Makes the Indian Rafale purchase look like a bargain.

Probably going to sacrifice some of the much needed infrastructure projects.

You would think after the India Pakistani skirmish the Philippines would think twice about getting western fighter jets to fight against China.

If they could learn just like that, then from all their experiences accumulated in history, they'd be a high-tech Asian society stickin' it to the West with their innovations. But they're not. They live in the rainforest and they eat pagpag with their hands... and they get super offended when someone suggests that their former colonist masters may not be the dominant country in the future.
