So it was just plain old innocent passage then. All talk and no trousers. So much for "freedom of navigation" and challenge to chinas claim. Didnt even go withing 12 miles of the "artificial" islands. Lol.

Perhaps to avoid what the Russian did to them .... but this time is China much more powerful .. China could sink them in SCS in no time if they wanted it

Anyone attacking another would trigger a war.

They avoided the islands as a show of good faith to China. It is surprising but perhaps there were the formal warnings given and some less formal warnings shown or demonstrated? Or maybe the UK thinks China might actually attack the ships if they sail within a certain range of islands. I hope it's just a show of good faith and both sides have an understanding that the UK has to do this to remain in perfect terms with the US. It's a good compromise, perform FONOPS to appease US but also not risk anything with China.

Bigger question is if the Jai Hinds are gonna do a Ladakh 2: Electric boogaloo in the Pacific; they certainly lack the intelligence and self restraint not to do something stupid.

Secondly

Germany’s South China Sea adventure exposes divisions in Berlin

Keep batting for the Anglos, Germany and expect further sanctions. How many lessons does China and its Confucian teachers, have to impart until the lesson is learnt? Indians are in remedial classes, i should not expect the Teutones to require similar special needs.

Glad to see the Bolly Pantomime is finished.
Now it has, I will ask my question from yesterday again, although this time a bit more expanded.
I am fully aware that SCS Island basis have facilities for both Air Force and Navy to operate from, from I am curious to know, which branch of the PLA actually manages the Islands and their fixed Garrison duties?

A very one-sided documentary by Channel News Asia of Singapore on the South China Sea issue:

I'm usually okay with CNA, but this is just low by their standards. Its sensationalist, its fear mongering of China, and its heavily one-sided. In particular, they almost exclusively covered 2 belligerent opponents to China in the SCS: The Philippines, and Vietnam.

Hi @ansy1968, do you know any information of these two people in The Philippines:
1) Gloria Ramos, Vice President of Oceania
2) Prof. Jay Batongbacal, Director, Institute of Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, University of the Philippines.
Especially Prof Jay. That guy is very belligerent and is very critical of President Duterte.

I don't blame the fishermen in Vietnam and PH for hating China, they are all misinformed. The real culprits are their politicians, elites and their government for creating this false narrative of 'evil China'. I would like to call out this Prof Jay. He has been given a lot of air time in the documentary. This fool considers President Duterte China policy a failure, and advocates a more confrontational policy against China. He says that China don't respect Duterte, because he is 'soft'. China respects Indonesia because Jokowi was 'tough' on China. I call that nonsense. China respects Indonesia more because it has much less confrontations with Indonesia vs PH and Vietnam. Despite Duterte being friendlier to China, serious confrontations still occur between the 2 countries. But did Aquino's 'tough' policy on China worked? Hell no! His policy to confront China, and bring the SCS dispute to the Court of Arbitration provoked China to build up those islands in the SCS! The tougher PH is on China, the tougher China will be to the PH.

Zhang Hongzhou, Research Fellow from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies rightly mentioned that the root cause of this fishing wars is this:
China offered joint development with all SCS claimants. But almost all of them are not willing to talk about it without discussions about sovereignty.

This is zero sum mentality.

China's '9-dash line' (was 11-dash line) was drawn when the ROC was still in power in China in 1947. This is not a CPC thing, its Chinese historical territorial claim. Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and others have not existed at that time. Could they have some historical claim before the age of European colonialism? Maybe, but it is up to these SEA countries to prove it. Otherwise, just sit down and negotiate a win-win deal with China. Bring in the UNCLOS and US Navy will only make China tighten its grip on the SCS. Its counter productive, its short-sighted, and its foolish.

@Sardaukar20 bro regarding the lady I don't have much info to provide but I know she headed a NGO, but the Professor is a known leftist but sold his soul to the capitalist....hehehe, His view and comments is always being aired in the Lopez owned network ABS CBN which operate ANC a propaganda machine of the Yellow Group headed by the Aquino Family. Bro in the Philippine if you had an opinion against Duterte or China, automatically your given a title of an EXPERT, even though your conclusion and research is inconclusive or outright false!!!!. That is what the MSM here and abroad label them which is wrong and laughable. Bro another one is Richard Heydarian, google it and see how he come to the same conclusion with the western think tank. His research material came from them and he don't do independent research, he is their mouthpieces and used his pretty English here to be noticed and gain fame. If you want an insightful and balance reporting try Roberto Tiglao jr and you will be enlighten.

Sounds like India's really trying to get back in with the anglos as sepoy slave, they're looking for a 2 month stay in the SCS:
Its only a matter of time. Jai Hinds have been bragging about this before Modi even came to power. Since the BJP already made India a sepoy slave to the Anglos. It must happen at some point in time. Let's see if the Indians would try harder than the Brits, Germans and French at provoking China. They have much more to loose.

@Sardaukar20 bro these people had tasted fame and power during the Aquino years and they lost that under Duterte, the professor is from UP and that school produced a lot of activist and a recruitment ground for the NPA. Its kind of funny the communist allied themselves with the oligarch...hahaha only in the Philippines. I think Albert Del Rosario and his boss MVP (Manny Pangilinan) funded his campaign and it all started when MVP wanted an oil exploration in the SCS (REED BANK) and was prevented by China ( this the main reason why the SCS dispute happen, Its all because of a greedy oligarch, please check Tiglao article in Manila Times for more details) suddenly this professor started appearing and making noises about China and had become his calling card. While Richard Heydarian was the FACE of the new generation of journalist because of his fast and pretty English, a product of my alma mater DLSU his mestizo looks also helps, 2016 election was his calling for saying the right thing about Duterte, after that he begun to change his topic to the SCS cause the money is there to make. Many International think tanks sponsor him (one of them is ASPI), they need a pretty English native speaker as a poster boy and he fit the bill.
