@Bellum_Romanum @voyager1 bro I mentioned from my last post about Duterte laying the trap, well here it is, he invited JPE (Juan Ponce Enrile) former Marcos defense secretary and also of Cory Aquino, a senator and a veteran politician that is respected. In a televised interview he exposed the sins of Benigno Aquino Jr, Del Rosario, Jose Cuisa, Sen Trillanes , Carpio , Campbell and of Manny Pangilinan. Its been talk about among the populace cause they never knew the truth, In his interview he lambasted the opposition for forwarding the US interest instead of its owned. Pressuring the sitting President to act against his policy especially Carpio who is a former Associate Supreme Court Justice who should know the LAW of the land which is only the President had the power to formulate the country foreign affairs policy. It shows his manipulative mind and self interest hiding behind the Flag to achieved his goal.

"Need we wonder why he advised Duterte to mind not the critics and focus on the country’s best interests?"

Be diplomatic and friendly to China. Do not depend on the United States of America. Mind not your critics.

Coming from a wise and wizened man, it was not a surprise that President Duiterte easily accepted these words of advice on how to handle the country’s spat with China on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) or more commonly known internationally as the South China Sea (SCS).

That advice from former Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE) carries the weight of years of experience and loads of studies not only on the WPS/SCS issue but the overall impact of such disputes on the country’s national security and our relations with the rest of the world. Having served exceedingly well in various government institutions for more than five decades, not the least with the distinction of being the country’s longest-serving Secretary of National Defense, JPE knows whereof he speaks. He belongs to that select group of people whose knowledge of matters of state be these the law, national security, foreign policy and related concerns is probably beyond equal.

His world view and his grasp of statecraft compares well with those of known international statesmen like former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, to name just two of the more recognizable ones.

If we are after sealing a deal with China and the other claimant countries in the WPS/SCS to keep the peace, ensure stability and implement mutually beneficial arrangements to harness whatever resources which can be shared with them in the disputed area, we will be better served heeding his advice.

“...Our approach toward China,” JPE intoned, “should be friendly, not hard, assertive, not aggressive...” - a stance which President Duterte embraced from day one when he advised that from then on the country will be “ a friend to all, enemy towards none.”

In announcing that pivot from a US centric foreign policy, Duterte came under fire from the usual; suspects claiming that he was unduly risking the country’s security and abandoning our decades-old alliance with the US and its network of friends in and around the world. By extending a friendly hand to our neighbors, especially China, he was accused of opening the doors to a “creeping invasion” by that emerging hegemon.

He forged ahead anyway, taking full measure of the possible consequences of such a bold action. Well, we are now at this stage where the benefits of such a friendly gesture has been shown to outweigh the risks. Whether the critics accept it or not, Chinese investments have poured in, trade flows have been increasing, exchanges among our people have been on the rise and grants and Chinese assistance for disaster relief and other social concerns have been continuing. Even our enhanced ability to confront the Covid 19 pandemic has been supported to a considerable degree by our friendly relations with China.

The one and only fly-in-the-ointment which comes every so often has been the release of “new satellite images” of Chinese boats pouring into the disputed seas as if in an invasion mode. So the country gets subjected to another round of Sinophobic stunts from the usual quarters who refuse to accept the fact that enforcement of our rights and claims not any other is the issue.

Asked what else needs to be done aside from all the things which have been undertaken by the administration to establish our rights and presence in the disputed areas, former DFA Secretary Albert del Rosario could only mumble the need to “come out with a comprehensive strategy to deter China’s aggressive actions.” What and how are we to undertake this remains unanswered even by them. Even their calls for us to call on the United States to activate the MDT had fallen on deaf ears. No official US commitment, not to mention action save for the sail-by of the US carriers, has been forthcoming.

So, given these developments, should we be surprised that JPE cautioned the Chief Executive “not to depend on the US as they have their own problems and interests.”

Even more pointedly, need we wonder why he advised Duterte to mind not the critics and focus on the country’s best interests?

Wise words. Same strategy that China has been following for all these decades.

Why keep making enemies when you can be friends, trade with each other, get richer and then get stronger?

AFAIK China has already struck a deal with Philippines on the SCS oil rights

And China has sents its boats there because it is expecting the US to start its shenanigans again and provoke China

Btw Duterte ideally should have thrown these US-puppets in jail

China is now in the process of offshoring its low cost manufacturing base and Philippines is losing the race vs its relatives to attracting Chinese manufacturers

Vietnam is the biggest winner and Philippines is nowehere to be seen.

@Bellum_Romanum @voyager1 bro, I see a SCS COC (Code of Conduct) and the Gas Deal coming. You can see how Duterte is framing the narrative, why not settled the dispute amicable between the two parties Instead of a war which the opposition and the American are pushing? Isn't that a rational decision and of public interest? Bro that question is being discuss privately among the masses, we can't enforce the ruling why not a JV. That kind of questions infuriated the opposition and the US cause they had no answer and it destroyed legally the US from doing FONOP activities in the SCS.

But as I have contended the opposition has been trying it's darndest to impede and imperil Duterte's pivot to China and realignment of the Philippines foreing policy orientation that has been heavily tilted towards the U.S. benefits all throughout the succeeding decades with little to nothing to show for the supposed benefits.

The West Philippine Sea dispute as it's commonly refer to in your country is the one issue the opposition thought, felt, and continues to feel strongly would be the achilles heel or kryptonite of President Duterte. After all, it's the one issue where Filipinos writ large can have some form of agreement and unity, and so it assumed that by pushing Duterte into some kind of corner by calling him a Chinese puppet it would not only ruin his strong public support but perhaps would hasten his downfall by forcing him to resign which would then make VP Leni Robredo (another American stooge) as the new defacto President, repeating the scenario that occurred during Pres. Estrada's tenure when he was replaced by his then V.P. Arroyo paving the way for her to becoming the President of the Philippines.

And as I have continued to believe there's a lot of general officers within your country's Armed forces that are in the deep pockets of the U.S. military complex establishment not just monetarily but also intellectually, and most importantly, ideologically which is one of the reasons I suspect that the so called "N.P.A." issues along with the Muslim separatists in your country will never be solved or quelled because there's enough large swathe of military officials who wouldn't want that gravy train to end. A military victory and a lasting peace in your country would bring an end to this illusory notion that American military might will be needed for any military operation. Therefore, America must always invite and create frictions both from within the country and outside the country so that their raison detrè will always be there.

@Bellum_Romanum Bro people always had grievances but at the end of the day having been articulated by the issue they can discern. That is the job of the MSM (both local and international media) EXPOSING THE TRUTH, instead they are a complicit actor being part of the elites. Bro this interview had a wider effect and you can see Duterte's political brilliances, the real SCS issue is buried under false pretenses long ago, instead of letting it stick and be recorded as such, they try to force him to take the bait of challenging the Chinese and destroying his image as a nationalist if he choose not to act, amplifying it with the help of US propaganda. For months he kept his silence letting his officials do the talking (Locsin is a major contributor and is part of his scheme) waiting for an opportune time. This week he had found it and acted decisively, he destroyed that narrative and instead put them in the spotlight, now they are scrambling to have an excuse and trying to divert the issue with irrelevant baseless accusation. For me bro the SCS and Duterte China pivot had become a non issue in this coming election, its the opposition only Trump Card and they drop the ball, people on the street wanted to know the real story and see the people involved persecuted.

Regarding the military and his official cabinet disgruntlement, bro the US and opposition is parroting that story, making a mountain out of a molehill. The rank and file of the AFP is loyal to Duterte, they know that they will never again have that kind of Commander in Chief with a caliber like Duterte, the best President we ever have. Why go against history and be condemn forever by the masses. He is a Teflon the more you attack him the stronger he gets, 4 years of SCS and China pivot issue haven't dented his popularity.

And an added side note, he set the bar and standard of what a leader should be, a Nationalist, had empathy, incorruptible, a sense of justice and a brilliant mind , it will be his lasting legacy. People will be more circumspect in electing National leaders and for that we will be forever grateful to him.

I said the same sentiment to my Filipino friends that your President is one strategic genius. He roped in the opposition and waited for him to squash this supposed issue until the very last moment so that once and for all the public will be informed as to what exactly transpired during the previous administrations mishandling of the 2012 dispute between China and the Philippines.

@Bellum_Romanum bro Filipino living abroad except for OFW don't have the pulse of the masses here, they don't vote and doesn't care, they left and settled in their adopted countries. So their opinion hold no value, they and with the elites here hold DUAL PASSPORTS, they scream the loudest for war and first to leave if it happen, such coward and unpatriotic bunch of people.

"Filipinos attribute nearly every political event in the islands to U.S. machinations. They see the hand of the CIA everywhere. As a result, they suspect American journalists, businessmen, professors and Peace Corps volunteers of working for the agency. The notion is absurd, but even if it were true they would probably concede that, on balance, the CIA has been a progressive force--though, contrary to Smith’s thesis, not always angelic."

American exceptionalism right here folks at it's grotesque best. They will gladly kill you with a smile.
