Words already come out from Beijing. Philippines used the Bad Cop(Aquino) and Good Cop(Duterte)
scheme won't work. Duterte is expecting to use outcome of the court as foundation for the negotiation for cooperation. China will never accept that.

would be much better if you provide a link for the above

During any negotiation, any party would try to strengthen the position ... it i spart of negotiation ... you would have to compromise ... gain on some and lose on some .... thats way it is called a negotiation  ... if there is no differences, there is no need to negotiate

Common sense. Philippines had done so many things against Chinese interests in recent years and the suddenly wants to do 180 degree turn and as if nothing happened?! You folks so excited because Duterte announces room for negotiation. Now let's get real. China won't allow that thing get away so easy. For starter, it wants Duterte to publicly denounce the Court and its decision.

google the recent news. Beijing tells Duterte to ignore the ruling. It cannot used as basis for future negotiation.

Can you give me a specific link of Beijing (i.e.: the official government, not just state media) telling Duterte explicitly to "ignore" or "denounce" the ruling?
You're the one making the claim here, so I'd appreciate if you could provide the evidence instead of asking me to find it myself.

I think you need to calm down a little bit. No one is being "excited" just because Duterte's offered direct negotiations. But some of his recent statements are still pretty encouraging, such as Duterte saying he isn't interested in taunting or flaunting the court's decision:

Rody: No hardline stance vs China
By Christina Mendez (The Philippine Star) | Updated July 1, 2016 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - President Duterte yesterday said he would not “taunt or flaunt” a favorable ruling on a highly sensitive legal challenge against Beijing over a South China Sea dispute.

Did China actually say to Duterte to denounce the court and its decision?

The truth of the matter is that Duterte is the most open and friendliest head of state of the Philippines China has seen in a while, and it would be stupid for China to make massive demands of Duterte so early. So I think you need to calm your horses a bit.

On the contrary, I am throwing cold water at people excitement of Duterte.
I am not excited at all. I am just cynical.

Yes, it's obvious that you are not excited, and I know you are throwing cold water over expectations.

However, you also need to realize that no one is "excited" -- the mood is best described as cautiously optimistic, therefore your "cold water" is coming across as irritating and barking up the wrong tree.

Because the truth of the matter which is not up for debate is that Duterte at this stage seems like a person that is much more willing to have dialogue with China than Aquino was. this doesn't mean the entire territorial dispute issue will be solved, but it does mean there is at least an opportunity to solve it which was not present with the last administration.

Nope, Most people in Philippines are fully aware this continuing conflicting with China is very bad for Philippines in the future.
It cannot continue like this. They already did their one time deal hit-n-run.
Duterte or No Duterte, Philippines will try to change course one way or another knowing the they already got what they want; the covering flag of the verdict.
