Swedish truck maker, Scania, is interested in entering the Pakistani market. Encouraged by Pakistan’s investment potential and the rapid growth of the heavy vehicle market, Scania will bring in their series of premium trucks, truck-tractors, buses and coaches.

They have partnered with a local distributor for this purpose. Scania is also looking into the possibility of setting up a manufacturing plant in Pakistan.

Yousaf Dewan Companies have struck a deal with the European truck manufacturer for exclusive distribution rights. The deal was signed in a meeting between Scania Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Christian Levin and Yousaf Dewan Companies Chairman Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui.

Pakistan, The “Preferred Investment Destination”

Mr. Levin said, “We are delighted to introduce our quality trucks and buses in Pakistan. Pakistan is quickly emerging as a preferred investment destination in the world; the automotive industry, in particular, sees a lot of investment potential in the wake of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).”

He added that Scania’s entry into the Pakistani truck market will help increase the competition which ultimately benefits the consumers. It will also help create employment and business opportunities for the local workforce.

About Scania
Scania was founded in 1891 in Skane, Sweden. Currently Scania operates out of more than a 100 countries with more than 42,100 employees.

Chairman Dewan Yousaf Companies said, “I believe it is opportune time for Scania to enter Pakistan market as our economy is growing by leaps and bounds, especially the truck and bus sector is witnessing unprecedented exponential growth.”

Govt’s Auto Policy
He continued that the government’s new auto policy played a major role in bringing Pakistan’s automotive industry back from the brink. The truck and bus industry is seeing huge growth which is an indicator of economic expansion in the country.

Additionally, CPEC has brought in more than $60 billion investment and has created a demand for fuel efficient, high speed/power long haul vehicles.

About Yousaf Dewan Companies
Yousaf Dewan Companies has partnered with the likes of BMW and Mitsubishi as well and is one of the major distributors of the two companies in Pakistan.

Looks like the SCO will add India and Pakistan this year and make BRI a centerpiece of the organization. I think it also should reconsider US application for observer status, because the group loses nothing by engaging US and could even build some goodwill.

Sure. The US has much to contribute in terms of Snarkiness.
Sarcasm aside. No thanks.

, Pakistan’s decades’ old business partner, believes that Pakistan should open China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for countries willing to be the part of the mega plan.

“At the moment, only Chinese and Pakistani companies can undertake projects in CPEC, if these restrictions are removed many private businesses in Japan may be interested in investing,” Toshikazu Isomura, consul general of Japan in Karachi, said in an interaction with newsmen recently. He said Japan is Pakistan’s partner since long and 82 Japanese companies were already operating in Pakistan.

“Japanese companies have invested over $500 million in the country in last three years,” Isomura said in a briefing regarding State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Nobuo Kishi’s recent visit to Karachi.

The Japanese consul general said their state minister had meetings with Prime Minister and other functionaries and discussed issues of bilateral interest. Easing of tariff barriers on import of Pakistan’s textile and leather products in Japan was also discussed.

Talking about CEPC, Isomura said, “The project is good for Pakistan and good for the region. Pakistan should open it for its old business partners.”

Strange. Japan, together with india, already has a rival to OBOR. Do they realistically expect to get a participation in CPEC ????????

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
Yes, I believe India and Japan expect invites into China's big tent, and Beijing would happily offer them, because their rival scheme can't effectively compete with the better organized and supported BRI. One of the biggest problems India and Japan will face, beyond BRI being much further ahead, is the 'China standard' participating countries have accepted for their infrastructure projects. Also, India and Japan don't have a cohesive policy to offer, therefore have little choice but to join the BRI, if business efficiency is the top consideration.
