Pulled the parts I thought were most relevant to the PLA with some big claims made by this American Air Force officer.

As well as the sheer speed with which Beijing is able to acquire new weapons, Holt contends, the Chinese are also operating far more efficiently. “In purchasing power parity, they spend about one dollar to our 20 dollars to get to the same capability,” he told his audience. “We are going to lose if we can’t figure out how to drop the cost and increase the speed in our defense supply chains,” Holt added.

This is interesting.

If he is talking about the latest Long Range Hypersonic Weapon being procured by the Army and Navy.
In the production contracts for the next 5 years, the cost per missile is respectively $106 Million and $89 Million . I assume the difference is mostly due to a ground-launched rocket booster stage for the Army.

Anyway, 20x cheaper would mean the Chinese equivalent missile (the DF-17?) is only $5 Million, which sounds plausible.

---

I also see a figure of $46 Million for the Air Force ARRW.
20x cheaper would mean $2-3 Million for the Chinese equivalent, which sounds too low to me.
And I don't think China has an equivalent for the ARRW, as they would just go with a ground-launch instead.

We actually kind of got 'confirmation' (Guanqi podcast) that the DF-17 is 100% below 10 million dollars, and in fact close to like ~2 million (12 million rmb).

Yes the evidence for this isn't that hard, but that's how it is for PLA watching.

China to conduct flight test for aircraft of key 'strategic, historic significance'

China is planning to conduct a flight test for an important type of aircraft that has crucial strategic and historic significance, said a top official at the flight test center of the Chinese military's top warplane contractor in a recent meeting.

Ge urged all personnel involved in the development of the aircraft to fully realize the extreme importance of completing this mission, according to the report.

IDK why the gov would publicly mention it. Even the article is playing around with speculation over H20, J35, or J15 but it’s highly unlikely to be the H20 for obvious reasons. It may be a carrier based aircraft.

It is interesting how in these calculations, they always like to talk about how everything is cheap in China, as if China of today is the same of the 1980's, but they never factor their own bloat, fud, lobbying and inefficient allocation of resources of the western military industries.

Didn't J-15T and J-35 already had its test flight?
Both aircraft have made Maiden Flights, but technically, they can have as many test flights as they'd like.

But if the test flight is referring to J-15(T/B) and J-35, then the question of why it'd be important enough to make a public statement comes up. Maybe the last test flight before Low Rate Initial Production? Would that qualify as "historic", and "strategic"? Maybe?
