BUDAPEST -- China took first place in four out of five events at the 10th Military and Police Sniper World Cup in Budapest on Monday.

The five individual and team events for both police and military categories included 24 exercises from a distance of 20 to 420 meters. The exercises had to be executed according to real life situations, including night shooting, within a designated time limit.

Xu Bo of China won the police individual event with 956 points, the highest score in the entire competition. China's Qi Baosong came second with 928 points, while Josef Prochazka of the Czech Republic placed third on 902 points.

Xu Bo's winning score also earned him a second top spot as best overall individual shooter. Josef Prochazka and Libor Havlis of the Czech Republic won the police team category. China's Xu Bo and Meng Qing Feng came second while Stefan Meisterhofer and Martin Kunz of Austria finished third.

In the military individual category, Hu Xiang of China won with a score of 907 points. The Czech Republic's Petr Marek scored 891 points to come second while fellow Czech Richard Maska came third on 853 points.

China's Hu Xiang and Zhang Hua won the military team event ahead of Petr Marek and Thomas Hekele of the Czech Republic in second place and their compatriots Richard Maska and Petr Novak in third.

I take it the Chinese team member is the one on the fair left based on what they wore last year? Wow, only seemed a while back when we were amazed by the Chinese team coming 3rd, and now they have truly exceeded all expectations!

It is a bit annoying that there are no good photos out yet, hopefully they will surface soon.

It is very hard to tell from that one photo, especially since the rifle is black and its hard to make out any detail.

Just from the general shape, its hard to tell conclusively if its a FY-JS or the same Remington as what they used last year.

The only distinguishing feature that could be made out is the unusually long scope. That may just be a new scope, or it might just be evidence that this is a FY-JS, because if you look at the rifle in the middle of this image, you can see that the small rail on the barrel is actually there to allow a thermal or night vision scope to be added to the normal scope quickly for night ops.

They could have just used that rail to add another scope on, maybe for better magnification.

However, the stock does not curve down like the FY-JS, that may be because of the angle of the shot, but it would be because it is not a FY-JS.

Could still be a Chinese rifle, as this model looks pretty similar, although I did not managed to find out what its name is. I just called it the the FY-JSB since it seems to be a version of the FY-JS.

Bottom line is that it is an amazing achievement with the Remington, if they used a Chinese rifle, that's just gravy on top, and may well stir up a lot of international interest for the rifle. Wonder how American gun nuts would react to a Chinese made rifle being the one to win the sniper world cup. :p

So they went with all black (or dark navy) instead of camo as last year. Would be interesting to find out why, is this a PAP or PLAN SF team this year instead of a PLA unit? Or did they just fancy a change?

But no doubt that it is the FY-JS, what an accomplishment, and what an advertisement. Bet the company making the FY-JS is positively rubbing their hands at all the international interest this win will generate.

Speaking of which, that means the effort made into this really bear fruit...below is the CCTV vid about how they made a 3-year preparations to make a winning comeback last year (according to the interview within, the first time was a disaster):

Apart from the unconventional methods of training, within shows a mix of weapons, QBU-88, Type-85, Remington 700 series, and the 5.8mm bolt action.

That 5.8mm bolt action is in fact a private venture, not a military sanctioned project, and thus far only some PAP outfits fielded them is relatively small numbers. Your pic was shown when it was first displayed in exhibition a few years back, actually that's a ballistic testing rig with fibre glass body to get some feedback from potential clients, the black one (production / pre-production model?) came out later. Not much is known about how this 5.8mm bolt action rifle perform, but according to some Chinese BBS posts I've read, they said (quoting those who took part in the competition) they still prefer the Remington 700 series over that...

Solid haul. Let's hope the PLA snipers are as well trained as these guys were.

But I wonder, how do these sniper competitions in comparison to real life sniper scenarios? I've always imagined western countries would have superior snipers for some reason, and the fact they did quite dissapointingly recently is rather strange. Or is it that they are not sending their best? o_O

Does anyone know if everyone uses the same weapons at these events? That would say a lot since you always hear that Chinese make low quality weapons and they were using them in this event.
